Lady Sofia

After a long journey: The Encounter [Bounty] FhC3HMM

Sofia, along Gregory, arrived to the mansion, along Calico's lead. It was a small complex, with a main building in the front, which had two floors, with a large patio in front of it. The patio had a stone fountain in the middle, and there was a small garden around it, with a stone path crossing through the whole thing. And on each sides of that patio, two smaller buildings.

It was dark - it was already starting to dusk by the time they had started to come here, and now, it was the early night. And there were lights inside. Someone had to be within - Jacqueline, if the letter was to be trusted. Of course, this could be a trap, so Sofia was going with a lot of caution. But she wouldn't let herself seem like a coward towards threats like this, but not only that.

The spelling error of her name was something that she just couldn't ignore. It was a small piece of trivia that only herself and her father knew. It was how she wrote her name for the first time, before she knew how it was actually spelled, as part of a small part of cute teasing that her father did to her when she was a child. And now, seeing it in a letter by someone else, meant that he must've revealed it.

But why?

While she was there, at the patio, she looked like if her mind was somewhere else. The noble just couldn't get this out of her head.

The mansion was a beauty.

That was the first thing that went through Kouse’s mind as they arrived at their destination.
Kouse was blessed right from his childhood, with the ability to take in even the littlest details of his immediate surroundings. His natural born power of deduction only helped enhance his medical abilities. When it came to being a doctor, being able to notice the little details were invaluable, both in prescribing medication to patients or performing surgeries.

Kouse adjusted his glasses as he took in the details of their surroundings.
The place had several buildings. One main building which had two floors. There was also a big patio in front of the main building with two buildings on each side. Said patio had a stone fountain in its middle with a garden round the fountain.
Kouse took a quick measurement of the patio and surmised it was between 35-40 meters.
Kouse squinted a little and noticed a small stockpile of easily carryable wooden logs stacked right beside the building on the left side of the patio.

Kouse guessed her father would most likely be in the main building, and it would be foolish to just walk into the patio, since a just decent enough long ranged fighter could pick them off from the top of either of the buildings.
He turned to look at Saki,Sammy and Dovey who followed them here.

“Dovey, Saki could you two please scale both lesser buildings each and keep watch from the top?. Take out whoever you see there too, and be as quiet as you can.
“Sammy, once they’ve taken their positions, go take those logs and spread them all in random positions in the patio, then come back here.”

Kouse would watch in silence as the three of his friends did what he asked. Once done he would turn to both Calico and Sofia, assuming they’ve done nothing up to this point.

“What plans do you two have, before we storm in there?, thankfully, they don’t know were here yet.”

"Doctor I don't think it is wise to dispatch your mans. We need a plan first. We don't know the extent of our enemies abilities. Nor do we know what their dirty asses have done to the place. But, if you want them to just head up ahead....that is fine. I just wanted to give you my opinion. As traps could liter every part of this place. " Calico would quickly chim in to Dr. K's followers. He didn't do this for their well being. One trap could set off another. And that could cause Calico personal problem. This place wasn't the largest but there would be lots of ground to cover. They didn't know where Sofia's Father was at all. Just that he could be in there. Calico, honestly, felt the Man was dead and Sofia was just coming to see her Father's corpse for some sick game.

"Sofia what was the name of the person that took your Father?" Calico didn't know. If she had said it he probably didn't hear her at all. Calico was a bounty hunter or Pirate hunter as he called it. And with his dealings with Nicky west he had a updated list of Pirates rumored to be on this current Island. It not even being a week after he had faced against one last. His current state was not 100%. But in his life he found he really was like that. He would however do his very best to guarantee his life was protected. Shusui was resting at his side ready to guarantee that.

During their walk hear he periodically turned his focus upward at the sky. He wasn't someone that study the clouds and weather, he didn't even know what they were called. But being someone that has sailed countless time he around Jaya he has grown familiar with how the clouds look when they want to cry. He'd never was able to tell how much would come but that it would come. And tonight it would come. He didn't know when but he would take a guess for less than two hours. This didn't really matter all that much due to them planning on heading inside.

He had lead them to a spot that allowed them to view the building, but not be so out in the open. Trees and bushes obscuring their figures in the night. Allowing the clear view of the patio and main building.  This was because getting found out could allow for last minute edits to the enemies plan. As Calico believed the enemy didn't know Sofia would bring him or Dr. K. Two individuals who weren't your run of the mill. Both in one way or another had garnered some fame on this Island. He however didn't doubt she didn't account for Sofia bringing others to help.

Was it here? No. Further down. The place was entirely to large, what kind of human wanted to live in a place so big. It was basically a large hotel, with so many rooms for invaders to be stuck in. He was about to give up. Madori was beginning to believe the effort of breaking into this giant mansion wasn't the best idea.

He actually did manage to find whom he was looking for and they would be better off dead. There was more than one hostage. Whom ever the other man was, was not his concern. But it would make his rescue mission impossible. They were heavily guarded and it was of great concern for him not to lose his life for another.

Finally the most glamorous of doors came into view and it looked more like the front of the place. He was jogging around the mansion looking to finally escape this place. He jogged to the front of the door and opened it. This all seemed strange and to easy.

However he thought he was in over his head and he should leave. Madori opened the front door and was leaving through the garden when he happened to spot a few people standing outside the mansion in front of the gates.

What the hell? Were they guards or inhabitiants. Madori was only half a second away from attacking them, when a familiar face popped up in the group. It was Dr. K. This was change of events. The Magma man came closer to the group and first asked Kouse directly, "What the hell are you doing here Kouse? Theres a hostage situation going on. Screw that you came at the right time. This bitch kidnapped the person I was gonna kidnap! I'm gonna kidnap him back."

Madori stopped when he saw the cast of strange characters around them. "Uh Kouse, whos your friends?" There was a man who was clearly a swordsman. A lady who was clearly not a warrior. Strange, even more stranger was Kouse was in company of them.

Were they here for the same reason he was? Madori could surely use the help with what he saw they had to go through.

Spoiler:

"I..." Sofia then muttered at the doctor's question. She was still thinking about that damn letter. "We'll see. Maybe Calico has an idea, though" she eventually said and then turned towards Calico with an expectant look on her face, trying to move attention off herself towards him. Because she actually didn't know how to proceed. She could guess, sure, but this wasn't the kind of situation she had ever been before in, but she assumed that it would be likely that pirates were more familiar with this, being it crime and all. They knew about crime stuff, right?

The rage she had been feeling before was past her, now. The adrenaline had died off. She was left feeling nervous and insecure instead, confronted with the reality of the situation. Luckily she had allies with her here, but she had no idea how bad it will all end up.

But they certainly gave her hope.

And that was giving her motivation to continue. Strength. "Ah." Sofia then mentioned at Calico's question. "Some 'Jacqueline' person, apparently."

Could it be Hunter Jacqueline? She remembered seeing a poster of someone called like that back at the Drum Marine Station.

"'Hunter Jacqueline' perhaps...? The one with the bounty." she then muttered, looking vacant and lost in her thoughts again. She didn't want to go after this. Yet, she knew that she had to. It was going to be a lot for her to handle. "I should call the Mari-" she started to mention.

Then, she stopped right there. Of course she couldn't call the Marines, that would just bring trouble to her new friends and she didn't want that. Then, she saw a bulky man approach them. Apparently he was a crewmate of Kouse's.

"Hostages?!" she then called out, a bit louder than she might've liked to. "D-did you see a man with... Well, he looks like me- but older. My father, Lord Sofia, did you see him? Please tell me you have."

Kouse understood why Calico was being so cautious. He too understand quite fully how risky it was sending his three friends into the mansion, even if just to take up good vantage points, but Kouse had already calculated the risks and ascertained it was worth it.

“I know Calico, but we need eyes above and I’ll be far more useful with those logs scattered randomly around the patio. Once we step into that patio, we’ll be like sitting ducks for any ranged fighter waiting for us.” Kouse would adjust his glasses. “I believe that’s worth the risk, placing them above us.”

He listened quietly as Calico asked Sofia what was the name of the person that took her father and heard her respond with a ‘hunter Jacqueline.’
To Kouse, the name sounded a little familiar, but try as he might to remember exactly where he had previously heard it, he couldn’t.
But he knew that whoever Jacqueline was, she was powerful.

Then to Kouse’s immense surprise, Madori showed up!.

“I could ask you the same exact thing Madori!.” Kouse replied Madori. “Well, too bad bro, we’re here to save the person said ‘bitch’ kidnapped.”
Kouse was only a little surprised, with the time he’d spent with Madori, he’d come to realize just how adventurous Madori was and didn’t put him past him to be in this situation, and at the wrong end no doubt.

To answer Madori's next question, Kouse decided to introduce Calico and sofia, whilst pointing. “This here is Calico, he’s a pirate that lives here on Jaya. While Sofia here, is an interesting fellow indeed, but she’s not from around here. She just traveled here to make a sale, and we are here to save her father the ‘bitch’ kidnapped.” Kouse rushed through the details.

Kouse’s friends rejoined them just as Madori answered Sofia’s questions, save one of them, Saki.
Only two of his friends returned.

Moments later, a shrill scream of pain penetrated the air. The voice was undoubtedly Saki's.
Kouse gritted his teeth as he withdrew his sword, their cover was blown. It was time to get the fight started.
Good thing they were a fair distance away from the patio, so they saw it all clearly as a crazy looking female walked out alone, calmly out of the main mansion and stood at the patio, smiling at them.

Calico would simply shrug his shoulders from Dr. K's response from his concern. He just felt one way and Dr. K felt another. He wouldn't press the issue. Sofia would tell them who the one that took her Father was, and that was bad. Calico read up about shorty a lot. She was not someone that would easily be taken in alive. So Calico was, if given the chance, would take her life. He did think about it briefly though. Maybe one of the many barrels next to the fountain could be used to hold her if they knock her out. The tops rested onto or beside so they could keep her in there without any problem. Maybe even filling it with water and keeping her wet if she was a devil fruit user. But, that would be super hard and too much. So instead of voicing that thought he would piece together what Sofia was going to say before she caught herself. Dr. K didn't comment on it but was rather more preoccupied with greeting a newcomer. Introductions would be made on their behalf.

"I am no Pirate, Dr. K. More of a hunter just like Jacqueline.....And Lady Sofia if you wish to call the Marines, don't bother. The Female hunter is too skilled to be caught by them. And they just will complicate things." Calico would put his hands on his hips. They had a lot of people right now. Jacqueline had a hefty bounty on her head. He wished he could capture her but that was something he didn't feel he could do right now. With his current state and distance he couldn't risk transporting her at all.

He was about to speak again but something loud would be heard. It was a scream of a fool that was sent into danger. Calico held back laughter and "I told you so". Things happened. There was no time to cry over spilled milk and he was glad that Dr. K pulled out his weapon. "Don't use that ability on me...like you did Sofia. We split up. That is the only logical thing to do. Dr. K and I will head to the sound of the screaming. New guy protect Sofia and see who that is that came out capture and find something ou....I think you'd be best for that? Or are you weak?" Calico wasn't trying to take command really. He just wanted to make sure they covered ground without splitting up too much. He didn't want to risk himself to go to whoever it was that came outside. He doubted it was Jacqueline as that wouldn't make sense at all. She was a hunter and this was her playground.

So Madori was correct in assuming the cast of characters couldn't be stranger. Apparently the fair lady before him, was in a crisis situation. She had looked directly at him and asked if there was a man in there that looked similar to her. His eyes shot upward as he thought about what he had seen. Only taking a fleeting look, they were in a large ballroom where there was two entrances into. All leading into seperate hallways. There he saw the person whom he had came for, but noticed to tough looking guys that would definitely put up a fight. Madori was sure he could take them but it would be impossible not hurt everyone here.

However he did start to remember the other man held, his blurred face became clearer in the Pirates mind. Then like a lightning bolt the picture was clear, "I believe he is captured. I recall a man with your liking. If you're getting him I think we can help each other."

Kouse was also just as surprised to see Madori come from the mansion as well as he was. Kouse began to explain that he was there to help 'Sofia' resuce her father from the Hunter. The other man was named Calico, he looked like he could handle himself in any situation as well. Dr. K mentioned he was a Pirate but he corrected that statement by referring to himself as a hunter as well.

They became acquaintined quickly but as they spoke there was two people that appeared to join the group. Kouse was alarmed slightly at the return as it didn't seem right. Calico asked hurriedly if Madori was strong enough to be up to par. Madori grinned saying, "You'll see how dangerous I am."

Calico also mentioned they should split up. Which at the moment seemed like the only plan. "I know where they are keeping the hostages." He pointed to the West Wing of the mansion towards a larger area than the rest of the building. "Theres a large ballroom ordained in white. You can't miss it. We'll start heading that way, so meet us back up. But be careful not to get lost, big place."

Madori looked at Sofia and said, "Follow me. I'll help you find your father. Hope you can keep up." Then he began to head back to the front door. Now that they knew someone was there. Sojima knew he wouldn't be able to frolock around like earlier. He hoped they would run into any traps.

Lady Sofia

"Alright." she said, nodding to the large man. Going there would be her new goal now, and she was getting fired up to go there. Given how he and Kouse knew each other, she felt like she could trust him, somewhat. Besides, she didn't have much of a choice - this was the only clue she had to go with if she wanted to get her father back. Plus, it seemed like they had the same goal (although this could be a lie just as well), so she assumed that he was interested in getting Jacqueline just like her.

Then, she looked at Calico. "We'll be going in there then. If I see anything, I'll try to Den Den call you guys. Let's keep in touch."

After that, she started to slowly creep towards that west wing, where the ballroom was supposed to be. Carefully, she made sure to see where she was stepping, in case there was any sort of trap anywhere. A tripwire perhaps, like in the books she had read? An ambush? What?

But she had to find her father.

She reached the door. Her hands tapped the knob more times than she would've liked it to. She was shaking. Heavily. She had to. Calm. Down.

The girl inhaled briefly and then held the handle hard so hard that her knuckles went white, bracing them down so that they wouldn't shake.

Then, she turned it open and started to make way deeper as she crawled along the shadows, down a hallway. At the end of it, she could see a large opened double-door, with light coming from it from a chandelier. It looked like a huge room given how far she could see the windowed wall was at the other side.

It looked like the ballroom.

She could feel her heart beating. Her father would be there. Hopefully. Unless all of this was a huge trap.

But her legs wouldn't stop walking. It was instinctive. She had to go protect and save her father, with that primal feeling burning deep and cold inside of her.

Then, she head a scream from the patio area.

"Hello there." a very buxom and intimidatingly beautiful lady mentioned, walking towards them, covering her mouth with a hand in amusement.

"I didn't know Phillipa Sofia was an okama." she chuckled. "Is it you, glasses-boy? Hrm? It would be a real pity that she had a beard. Or that she was this other guy."

"Oh. I get it." the woman then said. "She has just sent some lackeys after me, hasn't she? Ha. Typical noble."

Her mouth deformed into a wide, half-circle grin.

"I guess I'll just have to let her know that sending me her measly, weak henchmen is pointless and that she has to come here herself." she chuckled. Then, she swiped her hands downwards and a pair of katanas with a mirror-like shine to them slid out of each of her sleeves, into her hands.

Kouse knew Saki was captured, and the scream he heard was undoubtedly his. Kouse was ready to charge in to save him, but he had heard vaguely about the crazy pirate Jacqueline and knew she was not to be trifled with. He was no good to Saki dead anyway.

“No Madori, I think It’ll be best if you stayed here with us.” Kouse said.
Apparently, Vizer and Sofia wanted to go into the mansion to search for Sofia’s father although they had just lost their advantage of surprise.
Kouse adjusted his glasses as he watched a female which he guessed was Jacqueline step calmly onto the patio, smiling down at them with those evil eyes. He needed vizer there to take her down, with his devil fruit ability, Kouse knew he had an extremely deadly attack. Kouse didn’t know what Calico and Sofia could do, but he knew what Vizer could.
He hoped vizer understood his intentions and reasons for asking him and decided to stay back.

Then Jacqueline began to speak.

Kouse listened quietly as she carried on, asking if he or Calico were sophia. Her sense of humour was as bad as she was evil.
Kouse knew he should be extremely weary of her, but he had to save his friend.

“We are no henchmen of hers.” Kouse would spit out, sending a smile back at her, he kept his voice calm and maintained his poker face. “I'm Kouse, known as Dr K around here, and I’ve heard about you.”

Kouse would say as he began walking towards the patio, stopping 40 meters away from Jacqueline.

“I have no problems with someone making a living off kidnapping people, we’re pirates after all.” Kouse adjusted his glasses. “But you kidnapping civilians just for the fun of torturing and messing them up is unacceptable. Were pirates, not animals.” Kouse would keep close watch on her as he spoke, in case she tried anything, his hand poised and ready to make the required minute movement to instantly activate ‘ROOM.’

“Also, I’ll need my friend back.”

Jacqueline really did come out and this changed everything, sadly. How things would be done now would all change. There were a lot of actions that took place so quickly as well. The recon work down by Dr. K's subordinates took minutes, and one had even been captured. The first scream able to be heard by everyone if they paid attention. Which was understandable. As seconds after that Jacqueline had emerged and should be everyone's focus now. She was dangerous. A head on fight would be drawn out and too much work, for both parties. But before Calico could dealt with her he needed to do something else first.

The Doctor once again took it upon himself to make or try to make a decision as team leader. Something that Calico inadvertently was doing as well. Calico wanted them to stick together and devise a plan. Dr. K wanted to send his Men out first. That proved unwise. Calico wanted them to break into teams. Dr. K wanted them to basically stick together. There was nothing wrong with what the Doctor did or was doing. The others weren't forced to follow anyone nor would be by Calico. He also understood the Doctor somewhat. As in his profession he more than likely always taking charge. Especially since he owned his own practice. Calico had no problem with Dr. K when it came to that; as both were similar in that aspect. What he had a problem with is what he said to Jacqueline. About what Pirates were. He almost snapped from what was said immediately, as it disgusted him. Dr. K and most likely the other associates with him were playing Pirate. Something that Calico time and time again comments on when it comes to these new generation Pirates. These mystical fruits swelled their heads. Marines babied them. And other things were the cause of all this softness. They didn't want to be Pirates they wanted to be heros or just go on adventures. Why they were here now was because of Sofia, and only her. They all relaxed and almost broke bread together. So Calico would at one point help her in rescuing her Father and maybe get revenge. That should not be questioned ever. What should be questioned is why no one moved with haste. Jacqueline walked toward them like she had a trick up her sleeve, so her walking was understandable. Sofia and Madori on the other hand should've run. Her focus would be drawn to them or Dr. K and Calico. Either way it would be split and allow some type of opening from one of them.

Jacqueline as stated by Dr. K in his post was forty meters away. And walking in their direction.  Madori, Dr. K, Sofia,Calico, and the others were closer to each other. No more than ten meters apart. That was the extent of the distance any of them could move past before it happened. Even with Sofia turning away from Calico and beginning her creep toward a nearby door that lead into the a section of the mansion. As at the beginning of her walk Dr. K still was speaking. It was good that Sofia was more focused on finding her Father, and also let Calico know she really wasn't a fighter. What Madori did at this moment wouldn't matter as he just like most in here were slow. "I have no problems with someone making a living off kidnapping people, we’re pirates after all.”Those were the words uttered when Sofia was two meters from the door she approached. And seconds later his second sentence would start. The word civilians being Calico's trigger. Nothing had been done or really needed to be done to stop Dr. K from speaking. As the trigger only caused what was to come quicker. And due to how things moved one actions was superior than the others when it came to execution. What was going on was the easiest and beneficial way. The other option that came along with this would lean more toward the bloody side. As his killing intent had already been focused at Dr. K during the start of his second sentence, to make sure nothing dumb was said.

With the distance she couldn't speak at a hushed tone toward them, even with her moving in their direction. He wouldn't say she yelled but her voice carried over to them loudly. Calico when he addressed her would speak loudly with his first sentence, close to a yell. He wanted to start out talking with power, in a way exerting his dominance. A impactful man Calico would strive to be. Following his first sentence his voice would lowered to that of how Jacqueline spoke. Loud enough for his voice to carry but not too loud that he would be screaming. Why this mattered was because Calico would change the entire game. Not because things weren't going his way, he wasn't that much of a child. But because seeing Jacqueline kinda got him a bit hard. What he could do to that Woman was unspeakable. She also was a Hunter. A twisted Woman that was not your run of the mill Pirate. She was a Hunter and Monster. And Calico was a Hunter and Monster. What they hunted for differed. And the games they played might not be the same. That however didn't matter. He had a attraction to her.

In the end everything that would happen in the would make sense. Trust wasn't guaranteed to grow again though, but the seeds for it should've never been planted. Hate him if you want. He was never a good person. He did things he liked and wanted. And his method to things were foreign to those not like him. To not hide anything but be clear as day. Nothing would be be done physically to anyone right now. But the conqueror haki of Calico jack would engulf the area. When he'd exactly has already been stated. But so it is clear it would be during when Dr. K spoke. Though it didn't henge on him speaking. With the distance and speed of the wave being taken in account it'd take some serious luck to avoid what was coming.

Intermediate: 25m radius; [4] Speed & Agility; [4] Spirit & Willpower or higher can resist effects; Minor damage to awaken from effects. Can target specific individuals to knock out and those to avoid given the user is aware of their presence.

Madori
Spoiler:

The air seemed to thicken, much more tense than it was seconds before. The lot of them had just been discussing plans when it all started going down. Sofia had started to make her way to the front door, when the unthinkable happened. The Hunter Jacqueline was making her way to them.

She spoke trying to poke fun at Sofia's predicament and even pointed to the other three as hired henchmen. This was the main reason for Madori's newfound displeasure of this woman. He quickly found his voice for her, "You talk a lot I see." He noted, the fight came faster than they had anticipated.

What were the unlucky odds that she would run into them? Kouse also spoke to her, even stating his name. He was also displeased with her practice of torturing and kidnapping humans. To be completely honest, Madori didn't care one way or another about it.

If anything he was actually for the business part of it. Humans and other races were in always in high demand. Shit wasn't gonna build itself. However he didn't actually take pleasure in it either. He just didn't care that much to be guilty about.

Cross that off the checklist of things not to tell Kouse.

It seemed Sofia would get away from this madness in time, the Hunter had arrived at the worse possible moment. Suddenly, things took a drastic change. Madori had turned around and was facing Jacqueline towards them when he heard the other man speak again. "I have no problems with someone making a living off kidnapping people, we’re pirates after all.”

Why the hell would he say that? Madori thought to himself turning his head to Calico. Unfortunately he saw more than he wanted. For the precious second when turned his head around there was a visible wave of energy coming towards. He didn't quite see it, but it wouldn't of mattered if he did. The wave blasted Madori's very existence. Instantly he was knocked out, he knew not what happened.

His twisted body began to curl backwards as he was beginning to fall back. His head arched backwards as he fell and he accidentally hit his head on the pavement. The darkness began to shift slightly, something hurt pretty bad. What happen?

He had been knocked out. By what he wasn't sure. He tried to open his eyes slightly and it was blurred and it was already out of focused and majorly dizzy. Madori had landed on the back side of his head, giving him a minor concussion. There would be a little blood as well on his head, the impact seemed pretty hard. Which seemed to wake him up the moment he hit the ground.

Madori couldn't think properly at the moment but he was definitely under attack now. He would stay still and pretend that he was still knocked out, however he would be prepared for anymore underhanded blows to him. And also find a way to save Kouse as well.

"I see. Conqueror's Haki." Jacqueline mentioned with a chuckle, as she stopped and looked at the display of primal energy. "That's not going to be able to stop me-"

And the wave just covered the troupe, and didn't reach her before it died off, and she interrupted her talking for a moment.

"...Oh. Betrayal, huh?" she then mentioned, amused. "Unfortunate."

Then, she struck her swords together, and a faint air disturbance billowed out from her, like if small parts of herself were suddenly blurred momentarily, and she started to sway side to side.

"Here I was, with three new toys, and you go and take away two of them?" the young woman then mentioned. "Then, I guess just you will have do to entertain me tonight, ain't it so? If the lot of you were going to betray each other, it would have been so much more interesting to see you dance together, don't you think?"

"But no. They just had to fall limp." she pouted.

"Oh well. Not like it matters now." the girl added. "Because it has already started."

If they looked behind them, it would look like if the walls of the mansion had suddenly grown, as if by magic, to close off any exit. The air was also starting to feel thick and dry.

Jacqueline was setting up her play-field. Her playground. She was tinkering with the local climate in the patio, priming it to become a better environment for her illusions, which she had already used to make it seem like the exit had been closed off.

Meanwhile, Sofia felt the flush of energy coarse through her and past her, making her flinch and then turn back to see what it was - finding Calico in the epicenter. Then Jacqueline mentioning something about "Conqueror's Haki."

Haki. Just like Hanniver had mentioned over at Sabaody Prison - the person who was going to teach her how to use it. But died before he could finish.

This... This was Haki?

Then why was Madori fainting, and not Jacqueline? Calico had misfired? Made a mistake?

Why did that wave cover herself too?

She blinked in realization. He wasn't aiming at Jacqueline. That's why it didn't reach her. He was aiming at them. It should've been obvious - the wave was so short-ranged, and the only ones near enough for that to make sense, were themselves.

It didn't take her much to put two and two together.  She wouldn't stand for this. Her hands were sweating, and trembling. But she wouldn't. Stand. For. This. She was even ignoring Jacqueline's monologue at this point. Either she got them all in line and collaborating, or they were all going to die here.

She glanced at Calico, not looking like a threat at all via her impeccable control of body language - not until the very last moment. And she spoke out a single word to him, her voice engulfing the patio in a similar way that his Haoshoku just did.

"Stop." she uttered.

Kouse was always someone who took notice of his surroundings, he had always been one for noticing even the littlest of details. So he felt it, the killing intent pouring out of Calico the moment he completed his first sentence to Jacqueline.
Blame Kouse’s lack of experience with stronger people or blame the fact that he placed almost all his attention on the formidable foe, Jacqueline, but he didn’t figure it out, that infact Calico's killing aura was infact directed at him. Until it was too late.

One moment he was addressing Jacqueline, and the next, he was losing consciousness.
His medical instincts instantly kicked in, making him certain that this wasn’t natural, he swiveled round just in time to see Madori slump down. He didn’t know why exactly he fainted a split second after Madori did, but he knew for sure that it was Calico that had done whatever it was that had knocked him out.
It was clear now, Calico had betrayed them.

Betrayal was an unpredictable thing. It was what made trust so rare on the island of Jaya. Why the pirates would never win against the marines, why he was still skeptical of Sofia and why he was right now falling straight to the ground, unconscious.
There were different reasons for ones betrayal, but although there were both valid and crazy ones, it didn’t help to make the deed any less painful.

His body had fallen face first, straight to the ground, his forehead hitting a wooden log, causing him some pain. Just enough to awaken his senses again. His eyes fluttered open, although his vision was blurry, Kouse knew he was under attack. He also knew due to his medical expertise that he had sustained ‘minor’ damage due to the impact with the log.
Although he was awake, his senses were still a little foggy, so he decided to remain where he was, motionless and quiet.

天下無双

Figurative lives rested in his palms. Hastened actions could stray Calico from following through with many things, such as promises. Especially if those actions wronged him in anyway; there being a line that he could cross and cause great heartache. The Hunter almost crossed that line from what Jacqueline had done. Initiating a game before the players had truly picked their side would lead to a avoidable mess. She assumed there was betrayal when Calico was never on the side of Dr. K nor this new Man. He had intentions of just doing this for someone that brought him something. That however was a muddy future now. And blame had been pushed when there was no real issue or danger. As Calico never forgets. As her actions didn't match up with the situation. A wave that moved quicker than most currently present seemed to be seen clear as day. The source being shared also made him cringe a bit. Still he stayed on the side of the line everyone wanted, but that could change at any second.

If you thought he was done right away you were dumb. His actions moved quickly though not at his highest of speeds right away; regardless it was far superior to anyone other than Jacqueline. They wore decent clothing as they didn't rip upon him grabbing their collars. No slip ups or anything. He was fast and he caught them before they fell, crouching quickly he gently placed them on the ground. First he would grab the collar of Dr. K and following that he would grab the collar of Madori. That was the order he grabbed them before they fell. They were inches from him the entire time, and he was aware of their position each time. His reach was actually possible due to the distance that was between the three, who would've thought. The only problem was Sofia hadn't fallen. He noticed this the second he saw the other two begin to buckle. That being when his reach occured. At the moment they were on the ground, a distant that wouldn't even give minor injuries, he'd push out. His actions  were done in seconds as he already decided what he would do if this happened or that happened. Not taking his time with anything at all. Sofia was two meters away from the door. The distance she was from Calico was less, she was within the range of his blade.

He had lowered them at the point Sofia had begun to look back. In that time stopping her from taking in the surrounds wasn't done. She'd see him obviously but never anything he did with his blade. He didn't know how she'd react to anything he would do, but that didn't matter. As knew a reaction would be made. That reaction not mattering at all and held no sway in what Calico would do. As he already had planned for all of them. Since all actions would be pointless. So he had to put her down for a nap as well. Removed from its sheath before any words other than Jacqueline's were uttered. For reference his actions arrived right at the moment she finally realized what was going on and blinked. As in the games Calico played if you blinked you could lose your life. This however wasn't his game but Jacquelines.

Art of Iaido was done in a different way that it usually was. There was no upward slash but one more at a angle. With poor visual prowess his actions weren't even visible to anyone other than Jacqueline. Who was still talking right now and had just begun to sway side to side. The angle should be enough to land on the left temple of Sofia. The second strike came almost as quick, maybe even quicker. The impact from the first strike not even registered yet. It however was raised higher but struck the same area. If he wanted to kill her this would've happened but there would be no beheading, but there might be blood. Rather he held back just a little. That meaning being knocked out would occur if the strikes were able to land. There was one person to stop this but that one person had no real reason to do so. And with thirty nine meters between them she couldn't. She would be able to see how Calico switched up his blade. Just how Calico so what here really were. If his attack didn't land for some reason things would obviously be different. A rather hungry approach would be done to ensure escape.

Under the assumption that the last one had been knocked out he finally spoke, how it was stated he would. However at any time Jacqueline tried to do anything funny, that he found not to his liking he would not speak any further. Rather prepare himself to end this. "I AM YOURS!" There was nothing but power within his first words. As at any moment he had to defend himself he would, as his attention was put back on Jacqueline the moment his attack landed, if it landed. "Let me first start by saying...I want you. That is why I declared myself yours. You are stunning. He would bite his lip after saying such. He spoke quickly but clearly. Not mincing any of his words.  I will also say that you need assistance. And that I want to work with you. So you will help me move these bodies, or get someone that can. So I can put them where you want. As they aren't dead. Killing them wouldn't allow myself to gain your favor. This one with blonde hair has a devil fruit. You probably have accounted for that, as you don't seem like someone to be prepared for anything. Even Devil Fruit users. But, his allows him to switch people and possibly inanimate objects. Which is dangerous." He grabbed Dr. K and Madori by their collars, each of them earned one of his hands. Just like he did to stop them from harming themselves.

"You like to put people through hell right? Put him through it, Queen. I doubt these monster that eat those things known the real pain of having one. And they need to be taught that pain of becoming devil. This other guy though....I don't know anything about him. He could have one though. Devil Fruit users usually hang together, and it isn't weak to prepare for the worse." Due to the distance from Calico and the fountain that rested in the middle of a pond. He made it to that first. He lifted them high in the air so they wouldn't drag on the ground and somehow hurt themselves. And when he arrived to the pond from his quick paced walk he would dip them in. He had kept his eyes focused on Jacqueline. Not allowing the bodies to obscure his vision. They also could be used as shields if need be. As he had no problem letting anyone lose their life. Before he would continue he'd place them gently on the ground. No harm should come from them. Or by anyone. The barrels pointed out by Calico would be used now. Filling up two quickly. And then he would place those two into them. There weren't any holes that caused leaks nor did they push too much of the water out. It would probably uncomfortable to wake up in. Even with the high water they shouldn't drown. Unless the barrel was turned upside down. Once finished he speak again. As her Main target was potentially still laying down on the ground from his attacks. He didn't do anything else to her. He wouldn't do anything else to her. As she brought himself. But if pushed he would. Now or maybe in the future.

And finally there is the Noble Sofia. You sent for her and she arrived. But she brought us. I doubt you wanted that. So, I knocked her out so that you can show her you don't like that. Or you do what you had planned to do. Whatever is to your liking. I did all of this for you. To show you I will help you. But we need to move quickly. And I do not know how long it will be till they awake. So where do you want me to take them? For the time being I am but a...humble. Servant. "

Calico may seem demanding but he praised Jacqueline every chance he got when he spoke. Though she'd have no real reason to attack him or protect anyone from non-lethal blows. Illogical things were done all the time. And they could and would be debated. He felt she wasn't weak. No, he knew she wasn't weak. He offered himself as her partner. Willing and able to do whatever it was she would ask. Shusui rested back in it's sheath right after he attacked. And hopefully would stay sheath. Able to be used again or left alone. If he wasn't able to leave it alone and Jacqueline didn't act like herself at any point he would stand still. There was a great distance between them and he could do a multitude of things before harm would come his way.
