The Journey Down Below

What had happened not too long ago was still printed in Yuurei’s mind. He was upset about what had happened, and there was nothing he could do to change it. His captain, along with Harley, had been thrown off Skypiea, which was something he didn’t think would happen. The appearance of that monster was not something Yuurei was taking account for. Still, there was only one thing he could do, and it was making sure that everybody prepared to leave the Skypiea. Their goal was to head back down to Jaya Island and meet up with their captain for their next move. The swordsman rushed through Angel City alongside Gideon. He could only imagine what the giant was feeling as well. He had just joined the crew just to have everybody separate again. This was a trend he was seen happening with this crew and he didn’t like it at all.

Koneko was on Gideon’s shoulder right now as she did have her hood the whole time. She was upset, yet surprised that this happened. The mink felt like she was dreaming and was hoping that she would wake up from this nightmare. She could only hope, but deep down inside she knew that this was the reality. She wanted to cry because her friends were hurt and there was nothing that she could do about it. Still, she knew that Yuurei would take care of everybody and reunite everybody once again. Yuurei touched his jaw as it hurt a bit; he was tired of getting his in the face by these damn enemies. The run to the Charon was a silent one and honestly, there was nothing to say right now. The three would know what had gone wrong, and from there would have to prepare themselves to become stronger.

It wouldn’t take long for the crew to get out of the city, and soon enough to the port where their ships were docked. He could see the Charon and continued to use his ’Gravity Field’ to make sure that Gideon would be able to move quicker than normal. When he got to the ship, he jumped off the port’s floor, and onto the ship. He landed in the middle of the deck and looked at everybody that was on the ship. ”We are heading back down to the Grand Line. Mashyuu, and Harley have fallen down to the Blue Sea below us.” He told everybody on the ship as they started prepping for their sail off this island. Everybody there was excited to leave this place as it would be their first time leaving Skypiea. Yuurei had activated his den den mushi, so that he could speak to Daimaru.

”Daimaru, Mashyuu, and Harley have fallen off Skypiea. We ran into trouble, by the name Quinn, and we are no match for him as we are now. We are heading back to Jaya Island per captain’s order. I want you up here manning our destination, and navigating the sea.” He said this on the coms. He looked at the grunts as he figured it was a good question to ask. ”How does one get down from this island?” He asked. ”We have to get to Cloud’s End with a ship. With that, we will have to go down a ramp, and when we get to the edge we will plummet down to the blue sea. That is why Skypieans carry this, so that way if we see a falling ship we aid them to safety to the blue sea.” one of the men said this as he pulled out a whistle.

”With this whistle, an air balloon octopus will appear grabbing onto the two ships, and float us down to our destination.” He said to Yuurei. He nodded as he heard everything he needed to hear, and once Daimaru made his way up to the deck of the ship, Yuurei would have relayed the message to him. ”Please direct Daimaru on where Cloud’s end is located. We don’t have much time to waste, so let’s get this show on the road. Once we get to Jaya Island we will need more able bodies, and we need to become stronger if we want to take out this Quinn. I will never forgive him for hurting my friends.” He said this as the grunts shouted as they were excited and motivated.

Koneko would just stay on Gideon’s shoulder as she felt like she was at peace there. She was wondering how she would be able to get stronger, so she could help Yuurei with protecting the people on this ship, and the ones that weren’t on the ship.

Dai was in his own quarters happily polishing up Yubashiris blade. It had been overdue for a cleaning after so much carnage he had wrought with it. He sighed as reached over to his bedside cabinet and pulled open a drawer and laid out the swords maintenance kit on the bed. Gently taking each and every piece and laying it on the bed. He grabbed the oil container and gave it a brief couple of shakes. He was running low but there was enough for clean up Yubashiri. He unscrewed the top and grabbed his oil rag and pour the remaining contents of the bottle on to the rag.

Things seemed so much simpler while he was taking care of maintenance for his blade. This was something he could control. He would draw Yubashiri from its sheath and lay it flat across his thighs. the cold steel tickled his skin. He reached into the kit and grabbed a clean rag and began to remove the old oil from the blade. Being ever so diligent and careful so he would not accidentally slice through the cloth and into his hand. He grabbed the special powder infuse ball on a small peg and began to gently wipe the blade back and forth on all its side with it.

He felt a strong sense of calm as he applied the powdered ball to the blade and proceeded to remove any remaining oil on the blade with the clean rag. There was but one final step to finish and his blade would be done with its maintenance. but there was an all too familiar sound emanating from inside his cloak that hung on a hook right by the door. purupurupuru, purupurupuru, purupurupuru he let out a sigh and slowly got up and walked over to the door.

He spoke to no one in particular since no one would hear him being below deck regardless his tone was somewhat annoyed "Alright alright I'm coming, hold your damn horses." He reached into the inner pocket of his coat and pulled out the baby den den mushi. As he picked up the baby den den mushi he activated it with an all to familiar Katcha sound as he answered the annoying call. On the other end was a familiar voice of yuurei telling him of the blight that had befallen there captain and doctor. He shook his head angrily at yuurei. "You should have brought me along I could have helped prevent that, but well discuss that later I'll be up in a minute." with that he closed the communication channel of the baby den den mushi.

His once peaceful demeanor now replaced with annoyance and fear and worry. The captain did have wings so he knew he would be ok but he was unsure if he could carry two people or not. He grabbed his oil infused rag and wiped down the sides of the sword being very careful not to wipe it onto the bladed part of the sword since it was bare metal and very volatile to acids. The finishing touches were applied and he placed Yubashiri back in its sheath. He would take a moment to take a few calming breaths before he would head out of his room and up to the deck of the ship. He did not wish to go up angry and upset the crew.

With that, he left his room placing the baby den den in his pocket and the freshly cleaned Yubashiri on his left hip. He would traverse the hall and climb up the stairs that lead up to the deck. The fresh clean air hit him as he cracked his neck to the side a look of utter seriousness. He turned and found one of the skypeian soldiers that Yuurei had recruited and nodded his head as he listened to the man speak giving him the detailed information on how to get off Skypeia. "Most unusual but I thank you for the information you've been most helpful." Daimaru would head to the helm of the ship moving past people as he climbed the stairs and placed his hands on the helm.

It had felt like months since he had last touched this. He looked straight ahead of him and spoke. "Alright, lads weigh anchor and unfurl the first sail we're getting off this island and going back to Jaya to go and pick up the captain. Lets set sail to clouds end boys take a good long look at this island we won't be back for a long time." He would wait for the crew to do as he instructed before he would pull out of the dock and make for the aforementioned clouds end their adventure had once again begun.

The night was quiet, save for the loud heavy hammering which were the giant's footfalls as he ran. Difficult as it was to keep up and keep eyes on Daimaru and Yuurei while making their way through the Upper Yard, he was able to keep close to them in case any enemies would strike, and to their luck, they managed to avoid such trouble.

As they made their way through Angel Island's quiet and empty streets, Gideon spotted the Charon's silhouette at the port and pointed out the direction, "Port ahead" he said. His voice hinted worry; Mashyuu and Harley plummeted, surely falling shouldn't be a problem for a skypiean given their wings, but Gideon didn't know how injured the captain was, didn't know if he was still able to fly, there was little to no light around and he was only going by silhouettes when it came to medium or longer distances.

Then the thought crept into his mind, what would they do?

Soon enough, the crew reached the deck of the Charon, Gideon hopped into the ship, causing it to dip, splashing water onto the dock. Yuurei directed orders in a hurry and luckily there were hands already on deck manning their stations.

"Want me to man the helm of your ship, Wodan-san?" The giant looked down at his feet to find Vizmir, the old man who had just recently decided to take temporary residence with Gideon.

"If you don't mind traveling with us, Jotunheim" Gideon gave a smile, hiding his fear and worry behind it. He picked up Vizmir into his hand and stood at the rear of the ship and gave one look to Halal, his own smaller ship just a hop away before turning to give one last call to Yuurei, "I'm taking Koneko with me, Yuurei!" then he turned to the hooded minks on his shoulder and whispered "I hope you don't mind, but I haven't actually sailed this ship yet and you know it better than anyone right now" Then he jumped from the Charon and landed on Halal, forcing it to dip and rock.

After putting Vizmir down, the old man rushed to the helm. Gideon pulled the ropes and released the sail from the first mast, "Not the second mast! Not yet" Vizmir called before the giant reached the second mast.

"Sorry" Gideon said before he put Koneko down upon the deck. He was nervous, but the surface he looks calm and ready. This was all going too fast, or not fast enough, he couldn't decide what to do but wait the second mast and pray Mashyuu and Harley were alright.

Halal pulled off from the dock and rounded about, waiting for the Charon to take lead.

Yuurei was glad that Daimaru had come upstairs as fast as he could. He watched him moved towards the helm and started explaining what needed to be done, so they could move onward. The grunts were quick to work together. They had moved towards the anchor and pulled it up as a group until it was set. When they were done with that, the group would move towards the first sail and release the sail from being tied. It wouldn’t take them long to do this as they had strength in numbers. They were able to get things done quickly with their numbers. Still, while they were finishing that up, Yuurei noticed that Gideon was moving towards the other ship. He had forgotten that he helped Koneko fix that ship up to what it was today. The swordsman knew that his friend wouldn’t leave this behind on Skypiea. He had told him he was taking Koneko with him onto his ship, which he was okay with. ”No problem man. You going to need all the help you can get on your ship. Just follow Daimaru, and you will be safe.” He said to his friend.

Koneko stood on Gideon’s shoulder as they were moving away from the Charon. She looked down at the giant as he had spoken to her and hoped that she was okay with his sudden decision. ”I don’t mind and I know that we are going to the same location, nya. All we have to do is follow Daimaru, and even though I’m no navigator I’m pretty good with sailing a ship, nya.” She said this with utmost confidence. She was a shipwright, so she knew how a ship worked and how they function. It wouldn’t take them long to get onto the ship, and soon enough she was placed down as she was admiring the ship that she fixed up. She was going to see it sail for the first time today. It was actually the first time she would see any of these ships sail through the ocean.

”We are already Daimaru. We sail whenever you are ready.” Yuurei said this to his friend. The Skypiean that was supposed to tell Daimaru where to go had flown straight at the helm and landed next to the navigator. ”Once you set sail Daimaru, make a left and go straight from there. You will see an entrance or several entrances, and when you do take the one in the middle. That one will lead you to Cloud’s End’s ramp, that will descend you down back to Jaya island.” He said this as he looked towards the other people on the ship. One of them nodded as he knew what it meant.

One of the Skypieans on the ship flew up into the air and towards the ship that Gideon was on. When he landed on the ship he looked at all that was there with a smile on his face. ”I’m here to help you guys out, and also to call the octopus when you guys descend.” The Skypiean said as he was ready to help Gideon and Koneko out.

Dai would wait patiently while the crew scattered about the deck doing as he had instructed. He was glad to hear that they knew the way out of Skypeia. it didn't sound all that difficult to navigate through. Perhaps it was his arrogance as a proud navigator. He watched as Gideon would head off to his own ship and would wave silently towards his giant comrade. This trip to Skypeia had been a most enlightening one. or so you would have liked to have said but it was rather difficult. So many events had gone on without him to bear witness to perhaps the crew could fill him in later. he spoke with confidence and conviction "Alright lads take your places were heading out but don't think this will be the last we see of here we will return!"

He turned his head as he heard the young grunt give him the directions to the so rather cleverly named clouds end route. He was excited to set sail back down to the blue sea and be able to see real solid land and water. Skypeia to him was just not logical but it existed. His mind wandered off as it wondered about the captain and Harley as he had been told that they, in fact, had been thrown of Skypeia. He knew the captain would be fine he had wings but Harley was a different story.

He took in a calming breath and looked down as the anchors were drawn in the lines had been cut from the dock and the main sial had been unfurled. Now they would just need for the wind to pick up and being up at such a sign altitude they had a good chance of catching a breeze. he watched as an unknown man had accompanied Gideon as well at Koneko to his ship. Perhaps they had picked up a new recruit on their adventures without him. he shrugged and licked the front of his teeth.

His foot tapping away anxiously waiting for a breeze to get them on track. he wondered how a ramp could get them down safely from thousands of meters up safely. Perhaps there was a person who would do some sort of air coating for the ship at the end of cloud island. They had not informed him how they were going to get down from Skypeia but he would just roll with it. He would put his faith in the people after all the grunts were from this country they would know it's in and outs like the back of there hands.

He stifled a yawn as h felt a small breeze being to form from the south. He smirked as the breeze slowly began to pick up and the ship began to head out to the sea of clouds. He smirked wide and chuckled and held onto the helm kee4ping his ship steady as he slowly turned the ship as it wouldn't take long for the ship to reach the intersection of several exits. He smiled and would take the middle one and whistled quietly as he flicked his bottom lip as concern for his friend's safety grew.

Halal turned about, catching the nightly breeze by it's sails. Gideon nearly lost his balance which caused the ship to rock slightly. He quickly knelt down, "Sorry, I've never sailed on a ship this small" he said nervously. He felt he needed to talk, to keep his lips moving. He wasn't nervous about tipping the boat over, but about Mashyuu and Harley, they had plummeted off the island and vanished from sight. What happened to them was anyone's guess.

"Don't you worry, kid, we'll sail just fine" Vizmir gave a soft assuring smile as he turned the helm wheel, "Look at that, your crew is already departing, let's keep up" his voice was relaxing, as if this was a just a nightly stroll right before bed. Gideon wondered who in the world this old man was and why he kept his calm even though they all knew they were ready to depart Sky Island.

Wait, how are we going to-! The thought of how they were getting down rang in his mind, but luckily it was answered by one of the skypieans that perched himself upon the deck and mentioned an octopus. By the tone of his voice, it seems they had already a plan to get down, luckily for them.

As the Charon moved towards a direction and soon Vizmir sailed Halal right beside the larger ship. Anyone that would look over the railing would see Gideon give a small wave to them. The feeling of excitement filled the giant, both of worry for his crew and of satisfaction for finally leaving.

"Young mink, if you would like to take the helm, be my guest" he gave the mink a smile, though regardless, he didn't mind sailing or relinquishing his position, their destination was set either way.

The wing-people that were on the Charon would cheer when they heard this. They were happy to leave, but knew that they would missed this place. The fact that Daimaru said they will come back to this place only made them happy. Yuurei would only smile at Daimaru because he was glad to hear the man’s words. It wouldn’t take long for the man to get on the move though, which was a good thing because they didn’t have time to waste. There captain wasn’t here, and even though Yuurei felt confident in fitting in his shoes, he didn’t want it. His goal had changed since he joined here, and he wanted to help Mashyuu. Still, he couldn’t worry about that and had to worry about getting down first. He moved towards Daimaru as everyone else was quiet and making sure that there was no mishaps.

When he got to Daimaru he looked in the direction that his friend was looking in and he could see the entrances that the Skypiean was talking about. He smiled because they were so close to getting to Jaya, that he could only become a bit anxious. ”There is someone else on this ship, but he’s a bit to himself, so I figured he wouldn’t show up on deck to help, but he has red on him with a red bandana, so don’t go stabbing him.” He wanted to let Daimaru know, so he didn’t stab anybody if he bumped into him. The thief watched as they had made their way through the entrance of Cloud’s End, and soon he would noticed that there was a clearing to where they were going. He noticed the ramp and he figured this was it. ”Make sure everything is secure, and that we listen to Daimaru, if he needs things to be adjusted. Hold onto something because we are going down boys!” He said this with a smile on his face.

Soon Charon would move down the ramp as the slope it was in would give the ship a massive increase in speed. Yuurei’s eyes would widen when he felt this as he grabbed onto the rail as he could feel his body being pulled. His legs had slowly lifted up into the air, and soon enough they were flapping in the air as he was holding onto dear life. ”Why do we have to go through all this crap. First it was up, and now it is down. I wish we could just sail to a regular island already.” He shouted, so Daimaru could hear him. The grunts grabbed onto something way before this happened as they knew this would happen. The Skypiean next to Daimaru grabbed onto the rail, but with one hand. It seemed like he was waiting for something and he had a whistle in his hand.

Then it happened the ship was no longer on a ramp, Yuurei’s feet would land on the deck of the ship, and he wondered what had happened. ”Was that i…” He never got to finished his sentence as the ship was falling from the sky. The Skypiean blew the whistle now as he waited for it to come.

Koneko waited for the old man to start following after the Charon. They were going to follow the navigator’s path, so they didn’t get lost, or mess up. When it forward, she noticed that Gideon had a hard time being on the ship. She heard him speak, and she chuckled to what was said. ”When we get to Jaya. I will make you a new ship, that is a little bit bigger, but basically the same design if you want, nya?” She asked him wondering what he would say about that. She heard the old man speak, and when she looked over to see that the Charon, the ship was heading off the edge. Her eyes widen when she saw this because she was bit nervous now. Their ship would make its stride next to Charon, and she would wave at the ship as well.

She heard the man said something, and her ears twitched. She was okay with where she was, and she didn’t mind watching the nice trip. Her legs would fly in the air due to gravity, but she held onto a rail nearest to her. It wouldn’t take long for them either, and soon the Halal ship would be in the air with no ramp to continue its slide down to the Blues. ”Oh my god, nya! Are we going to die, nya?!” She shouted.

The first octopus appeared as it had grabbed the Charon with its tentacles. It would wrap around the ship holding it, and with the air blowing into it the creature it inflated and looked like a hot air balloon. Yuurei’s body would hit the deck as he noticed that something had caught them. He was surprised by this as he looked at Daimaru. His heart was beating fast, but he was glad that he was alive. ”That was not fun. And we are coming back here again, which means we have to do that again.” He said to Daimaru.

Koneko noticed the octopus coming from the clouds, and grabbed the Charon. Her eyes widen and her jaw dropped. She was scared, and was about to cry because she thought Yuurei died, but then she noticed that it was helping them out. She sighed, but then noticed that their ship was descending. ”We need one of those!” She shouted nervous enough not say her signature ‘nya’. The Skypiean blew on the whistle this time as another octopus came out of the cloud and grabbed onto the Halal ship. The mink’s body would hit the deck just like Yuurei, but she would be laying on the ground as she held onto the rail. ”We are alive right, nya?” She asked as both of the ships were descending down to the Grand Lines now.

Dai would keep his eye out on the horizon for the time being. He was contempt with leaving the island though he was sad he did not get to see the city of gold he had heard legend of. Perhaps next time they came back they would go out and do a expedition for it. he small smile appearing on his face. The thought of entire buildings and streets made of gold made his inner pirate scream "yar!" He, however, kept that to himself as he did not feel like feeling mortified at this point and time in his life.

The sound of roars of applause and cheers from the men did his heart good. He was awfully worried about morale since most of them had been born and raised here and were setting off to places unknown. He nodded his approval as he slowly looked out of the corner of his left eye as he heard the sounds of approaching footsteps. It was his good buddy Yuurei and he was apparently coming to see him. Oh boy, what a treat he thought sarcastically. "Ahh Yuurei old buddy old pal why makes you think id go stabbing right off the bat hehe just kidding but duly noted about the extra man."

He made a mental note to keep an eye for a new man with a red bandanna and be sure not to kill him. He nodded his approval as yuurei ordered the men to be sure to listen to him a wise decision. he had gotten them up here safe and sound he can get them back down. He smirked as he saw the grunts securing themselves as the ramp they were on was beginning to come to an end. the ship quickly descending downwards. Dai nearly losing his footing as the ship went down the ramp. "SHittt warn a guy next time will you guys." He gripped onto the helm of the ship as the ship slowly began to stabilize and become at a nice flat angle.

He picked himself up and took one last look around him as they were coming up to there exit. but there was just an edge. Seconds passed as the thoughts processed into his brain. There was no shipyard nothing no ramp either it was just a straight plummet down. "SHit shit shit Furl the mainsail before its.." sadly it was too late the ship had gone over the edge. then the oddest thing occurred the sound of a whistle being blown came from the deck. One of Yuureies men was blowing it. But why on earth was he blowing a whistle?

He scratched his forehead and prayed to whatever gods were listening to spare him and his crewmates and his ship. Then suddenly he heard a deep bellowing noise as what appeared to be a very large ocotopus its tentacles latching onto the ship and grabbing onto the Charon and was it getting bigger. The creature seemed to be growing larger and larger as it took in air. until at last from the ship making a very fast plummet it was slowly falling down back to the grandline. he slowly looked about his legs trembling slightly for a few moments as he did a head count. It seemed everyone on board was still here thankfully. Maybe this trip down wouldn't be so bad after all. He slowly looked towards Yuurei sarcasm in his voice "Let's go again let's go again!" He chuckled and wiped the top of his forehead with the back of his hand. the ship would slowly descend from the sky like a hot air balloon it would take a while but once he felt the ship impact the ocean gently he could see jaya island off in the distance. He smiled and turned the wheel off in its direction and set sail back to jaya they had returned once again to the grandline,

(Dai exit)

"Release the second sail" Vizmir called, to which Gideon did so, the sail dropped the ship picked up. With one last look back, Gideon watched Angel island slowly vanish.

"You going to miss it?" Vizmir asked, noticing Gideon's attention.

"No... I've left islands behind before, more emotionally invested than this one" Gideon didn't look down to Vizmir, but took his eyes from Angel island and looked forward. True, Skypiea didn't bring him any emotional distress or comfort, but it felt like a milestone, a starting point for something, hopefully for the better. He rubbed his left forearm, though the wound is closed and bandaged, he still felt the pain, remembering the troubles he went through, but also remembering the people he saved. And it wasn't because of just him, it was because of the crew, The Phantom Pirates, they are a force together and Gideon understood he had a better chance of surviving this dangerous world and this journey if he sticks with these more dangerous people.

"Here we go!" Vizmir called. The ship was pulled by rushing water. The Charon vanished over the ledge. Gideon's heart began thumping hard as he held onto the main mast. He didn't see anything yet, but he felt the fear of what he might see, probably nothingness, or probably endless sea with dots of islands, which sounds beautiful, but also scary as well. Excitement nevertheless was there, to go back to the sea and the soil islands, but it was battling against his fear.

Then it happened... Halal tipped over the ledge, and all Gideon could see beyond the slope was blackness below; the night sky emitting no light but the moon and the stars, but not enough to reveal the sea below, not enough to reveal how far below the sea was, how far the drop is, it looked endless. Gideon couldn't tell where the sea ended or where the sky began. It fell as if he was falling into nothingness.

"No" was the only word that escaped the giant's mouth in a whisper. Vizmir looked over to the giant and chuckled, though he understood the sight was overwhelming, he himself was a bold man and has seen much more fearful things in his life.

The ship gained speed as it sped down, the wind pressing against the crew, Gideon pressed his body against the deck, hiding his face from the view, wishing it to all be over soon.

Then within a few seconds, the ship stopped feeling resistance. Like an absence. It had left the ramp and Gideon knew this, but he chose not to pick up his face, knowing if he did, he would probably cry. But he did look up to the sky. Fear melted away, the stars looked beautiful and welcoming, however it was only for a moment before a whistle was blown and a hovering octopus covered the ship overheard, grasping the ship and keeping it from freefalling. The ship was now slowly dipping down the sea below. Gideon's heart taking it's time to settle.

They were returning the sea, their sea.

[EXIT]

They were descending at a good pace, and he looked at Daimaru who could only look at him as he was a bit nervous, yet excited at the same time. When he heard him saying that he wanted to do it again, the swordsman glared at his friend as he wanted to stab him right now. ”Next time we go up there I will just my gravity to bring us back down. I should have better control over it I hope.” He said this as he wanted to get stronger to help out the crew. Yuurei moved towards the edge of the ship after he spoke to Daimaru as he noticed that they were getting closer and closer to the Blue Sea. He wasn’t able to swim in it anymore, but for some reason, he had missed this place. It was a nostalgic feeling and he felt like he was in Skypiea for a long time.

It wouldn’t take long for them to touch the Grand Line again, and from the distance, he could see the island that started this adventure. It was the place where he was hoping his captain would be waiting for him. Yuurei tighten a fist from his right hand as he was looking at Jaya. They were close enough to the island too for the Baby Den Den Mushi to work. Daimaru would be taking them to the island straight ahead, but Yuurei would admire the scenery while clicking onto his Baby Den Den. ”Mashyuu we are on the Grand Line and are heading straight to Jaya. We are coming for you and Harley, so I hope you guys are ready.” He said this as he couldn’t wait for him to touch an island that wasn’t from the Sky again. Still, he was moving forward, and he knew that he was going to have to work harder if he wanted to keep everyone alive.

The wing-people was surprised to see how different things looked down here. The water they saw looked endless and they felt like it would go on forever. They also noticed how blue the sea was down here. It was nothing like the White Sea they were so used to seeing in Skypiea. It wasn’t just that, but they noticed Jaya Island, and how different I looked compared to their home. This was all a new experience for them, and they were happy that they took the chance to leave with the man who had offered them freedom.

Koneko heard the conversation between the two guys, and she was happy to be leaving this island.
