Chapter 1:Simon&Mo
Hot, that was the best way to describe the arid wasteland that was Sandy Isle, not only from the heat of the sun, but the constant turmoil and state of unrest that the Island was in. The country plagued by famine and pirates, citizens turned cultists parading around as cannibalistic demons, revolutionaries hiding in the shadows waiting to be the one who lights this powder keg of a country up. The marines have tried and failed to contain the threats, in fact on numerous occasions they have failed to apprehend the primary contributors to the country’s decline. A mink bandit turned pirate, who wound up uniting all the bandits on Sandy Island under a single banner, after which he pulled the greatest robbery Alabasta had ever seen, leaving their currency without backing essentially destroying their economy. Then there was the sociopathic ‘pirate’ if that’s what you want to call him, as he was more akin to walking natural disaster, a plague of sorts, leaving nothing but death and destruction in his wake. And finally, Lina Askr, a small young girl that has become larger than life in the eyes of the common people, she was there hope and savior, someone to lead them out of the dark times they found themselves in, which in the marine’s eyes, made her the most dangerous.
The Rain Dinners was not exempt from their destruction, in fact both Helios Jackal and Bazil had previously trashed the place when they had first met and not long after Lina caused her own bit of mayhem inside the building as well. With the passage of time, the casino once again re opened for business and went about as usual like nothing ever happened, unlike the rest of the island, Rainbase did not suffer from a shortage of anything. As human greed was found in abundance here and the possibility of a quick fortune would always entice customers, whether they were of the wealthy or the poor, all those with some semblance of beli were welcome. Among those who frequented the establishment were a group of notorious pirates, their higher ranking members being quite the avid gamblers, namely their captain “Unkillable’’ Simon a man even the marines gave up on killing and his right hand “Poison Drinker” Mo, a snake of a woman, able slither her way out of any situation. Simon was a tables man himself, roulette, preferably Russian, and poker were his games, while Mo got her rocks off by pulling the lever down on a slot machine and watching the lights and wheels fly by. In fact, these casino trips were among the few times the pair weren’t attached at the hip, being separated by well over twenty meters of floor and a crowd of people numbering in the hundreds swarming throughout the casino’s first floor. The rest of the crew, ten members, were scattered about playing various games of their own. Among them, were four swordsmen, two pugilists, a marksman, and a cook, who’s abilities varied by the individual, though none of them could hold a candle to the captain and first mate.
“The boss sure does look like he’s having a good time.” Hizaro said, his right hand resting on the katana that was fastened to his hip, having gained ‘special privilege’ to carry weapons openly in the Casino along with the rest of their crew members. Using his left to point out their captain Simon, who could be seen brandishing a large smile as he collected a pile of chips from those at his table. He was a middle aged man wearing a grey suit, the jacket slung over the back of the chair, his white undershirt and black suspenders being completely visible. Wing tipped shoes and a thin black tie, golden cuff links and a diamond encrusted tie clip topped off with a smooth grey fedora covering up his distinguishing trademark of an exposed brain. Simon had the look of a suave gambler and he had the skills to back up too.
“Can’t blame em, guy like that cheats the reaper daily, think he’d lose here?” The bald giant of a man responded back with a chuckle, referencing not only Simon’s unique powers but his ‘win at all costs’ mentality, willing to cheat to ensure victory. Which was one of the reasons he found gambling so enjoyable, it was more akin to winning than anything else.
On the opposite side of the casino sat a young girl with long black hair that flowed down to her tight round bottom. She wore a black shirt with cut short sleeves that ended at the midsection, exposing her stomach and two large scars on either side of her abdomen. Around her waist were two studded belts holding a pair of ripped denim shorts, with long slender legs extending out from them that ended in a pair of black platform boots with a single metal spike jutting out of the toe on either foot. Her makeup was dark and heavy, her lips were black as night as they frequently kissed a glass bottle filled with a greenish liquid, a snake could be scene soaking in the substance as it swished around every time she slung it up for another swig. Mo was as eccentric as they come, she was brash and obnoxious with just enough crazy mixed in to make you think twice about sleeping with her. But not Simon, no, for all his charisma and power, he was like putty in her insane little hands, following her around like a puppy does its master.
“This is so fun!” Mo exclaimed, grabbing the elderly woman next to her and taking a swig of her snake liquor, pouring a abit onto the woman’s after she took her own. Laughing as the poison laced drink burned her skin, though this was a common occurrence when they showed up, Simon reimbursing or intimidating away all the damages his psychotic lover caused.
“She’s a fuckin nut, I don’t know what the cap’n sees in her.” Pirel remarked, watching the crazed young woman’s actions towards those around her she played the slots.
“Crazy as she is, you know she’s great in the sack!” Gin quickly replied back, laughing hysterically at his own joke
