The Real Folk Blues
Klinghoffer dropped the guitar and turned around to look at Oz, but he was gone just like The Wall was, the only things left were Pink and the lifeless corpse of Layla with the sun slowly rising behind them, ending what seemed to be an eternal night. Pink rushed out into the center of the rooftop and yelled out to Klinghoffer “It’s done”, a horde of vampires rushed out behind him seeking to end his life but as soon as they entered the sunlight they screamed in pain as they turned to dust. The musician ran up to Layla’s dead body, kneeling over it and crying, just like the other vampires she turned to dust, he reached out to grab the dust as he blew away with the wind, there was nothing left of his beloved besides the whistling wind. He stood up and stared out into the sunrise, it was too late to let her know what she meant to him and if he cried it would only make people believe that he was happy. Klinghoffer had to let her go but his heart ached, but it was worth it because he was sure that he was a mistake, the only reason she was dead now was because he got involved in her life. He sucked up the tears and began to descend the tower, Pink behind him feeling sorry for the kid, when they set foot out of the tower they didn't give it a second look before leaving, the tower following suit of the vampires and crumbled into dust and went off with the wind.
A week has past since vampire incident had been solved and everybody continued on like nothing even happened, Klinghoffer sat in Funky G's office with a blank expression, he had been like this since it happened, the days blending together with no emotion. There should have been a sense of accomplishment, he had done it, but all he felt was emptiness, Funky was talking to him but all the words blurred together, he heard something about a reward for his efforts but that was about it. He knew that there would be a day when the pain would fade, but until that day he needed it to carry on, he walked out of Funky’s office with a handshake then made his way out of the club, his unhappiness being the only proof that he was sane, that he was human. As Klinghoffer stepped out into the street with a gale of wind hitting against his back, like the spirit of Layla was urging him to move forward, he broke his straight face and showed a smile, he felt that he wasn't alone. The musician stepped forward into the bright streets with a new motive, he was reborn as a new man...the man that would avenge Layla and bring an end to the evil Oz. And with that, the tale of the Phantom Blood came to a close, Klinghoffer was never the same after that moment, a part of him died that night and all he could do was walk his lonely road, searching for the day he could enact his revenge.
