The Black Iconoclasm

A little under 48 hours had passed from Noctis' first venture into the Sixth District for reconnaissance on the Los Diablos cult, and in that time Noctis had managed to create two functional prototypes for his operation; a steel vessel capable of holding his Rokumori Gas under high pressure, as well as altering the fabric of his shirt with a flame-retardant woolen weave. While it wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world, it was functional and one of a kind, which is all that mattered to him at the moment. Having informed his ally Devroux of his next venture, Noctis trusted the bat mink to keep an eye on his dwarf companion Three for the time being.

Opening the seal on his metal container, Noctis started to fill the vessel with a steady flow of his Rokumori Gas, something that he could do idly and inconspicuously, as it looked not too different from a large thermos or flask. At least, not enough to the passing eye. Making his way out of the warehouse which he had essentially called home for the past two days, the longleg brought himself together outside of the chained entrance ready to make his way into the Development Sector of the Sixth District.

Noctis anticipated that the sector itself wouldn't be overly difficult to find, as industrial centers tended to leave their mark and influence no matter where they were located, whether it was through smoke stacks and pollution, or even the distinct smell that production tended to make.

Bringing the mask to his face from his last expedition, Noctis dawned the near-blackened purple cloak to conceal his identity fully. After the time that had passed from his encounter with the strange three-eyed preacher, it was likely that his appearance wouldn't come across as familiar or suspicious in any meaningful way.

Starting the trek, Noctis made his way towards his first target, the Sin Priest of Lust.

The Sixth District's population ripples in and out, the crowd being the densest near the center of each sector and gradually thinning out the further one gets away from that point. This effect makes it easy for worshipers and any visitors to the district to find where they need to go, even if the buildings within that sector don't change all that much. For Noctis, the development sector was a sort of home away from home, as the churches and housing that he'd seen in his last visit to the Sixth District had given away to warehouses of varying sizes. However, against popular belief, the densest crowds of people were not surrounding the largest warehouse.

On the contrary, the largest crowd had surrounded a medium-sized facility. Although its ground coverage wasn't that large, it held multiple stories to compensate, stretching four stories into the sky - double that of other warehouses in the area. From bottom to top it was gray brick, littered with highly reflective window panels up the length of it.

The crowd that had surrounded the building were worshipers that had gathered, coming to supply themselves for their duties under the Sin of Lust. Through the constantly shifting crowd, one could see clerks venturing in and out of the warehouse to retrieves supplies for each visitor, but to the trained eye, they'd know that the Sin of Lust herself was not among these suppliers. She had a much more important job and as such confined herself at the top of the warehouse working on new inventions for La Bomba himself. Of course, anything that impressed the boss would eventually makes its way into the hands of the worshipers her selected individuals were currently supplying.

As Noctis had assumed, the center of the Development Sector wasn't difficult to track down, as the amount of people gradually shifted as he approached. The buildings too, seemed to change in a gradient as well, as the residences and places of worship were supplanted by warehouses, storage units, and factories. Following along the trail, Noctis was surprised to see he had come across the heart of the Development Sector already. It wasn't the largest building there or the most impressive to look at, but it was towering around 2 stories higher than the rest of the sector. However, what really gave it away as his destination, was the sheer amount of people outside of the gray facility.

The crowd of worshipers and faithful surrounded the entire perimeter of the building, and extended out to cover the streets. Noctis stood a decent bit taller than the majority of those in the sea of people, which gave him a unique vantage point. He watched from a distance as the crowd trickled in and out at an incredibly slow pace, while more official looking clerks seemed to be handing out supplies one at a time. It was clear to Noctis that despite this being the location, his target wasn't in the crowd, nor on the ground level. Looking up towards the top of the building, it seemed almost too obvious and too symbolic that the Sin Priest would be at the highest floor. Regardless, making it into the building was Noctis next move.

Retreating back into a less crowded and visible area, Noctis found himself in an empty alley behind one of the neighboring warehouses. Taking a moment to make sure he wasn't being watched, he quickly allowed his form to dissolve into the air itself. Now invisible to the naked eye, Noctis was able to pass through the crowd without being seen, the only indication of his presence being the breeze that constituted his body flowing past the faithful.

Not wasting any time, Noctis made his way through, around, and above the crowd as what seemed to be a stray breeze entered into an entrance being used by one of the distributors. Taking his body to the upper level of the ground floor, Noctis scouted out his surroundings and the layout from the safety of his air body from high above.

Utilizing his gaseous form, Noctis enters the building unscathed and undetected. The clerks moving to and fro are none the wiser to the intruder that had just entered their building, giving Noctis time to look about the area to get a feel for the layout, at least to what's within his current field of vision.

Behind him are the dock bay doors that the clerks are moving in and out of, in front of him lie several stacks of different types of explosives that are all closely monitored by their own personal guard. Behind the finished stacks of explosives are warehouse workers, all of whom are sitting at tables lined in rows assembling new product that will soon be distributed to the worshipers outside. The bottom floor of the warehouse stretches the whole way back, giving the workers plenty of assembly and storage room. At the far end of the warehouse is a lone set of stairs leading upwards. Near the stairway are two elevators; one designed for the handicapped and one designed to move product up and down between the floors.

Coming out of his gaseous form, Noctis landed softly onto the ground as quietly as possible to not draw any attention to himself, stashed away in one of the less active corners of the ground floor. The size of the operation here took Noctis by a bit of a surprise, the sheer number of explosives and supplies being pushed out of this building could probably rock the entire district with ease. Workers toiled away, none the wiser, as they moved product in and out of the warehouse. Several of the employees held a trained and focused eye over the pile of explosives that rested just in front of Noctis, meaning that moving past them shouldn't be overly difficult, so long as the longleg intruder didn't tamper or interfere with them in anyway.

The real challenge would be making his way to the complete opposite end of the floor, where Noctis' path to the top resided. With a gas creation range of 30 meters, Noctis wagered he could fill at least half of the room with a sufficient distraction quickly enough to create significant distress among the workers, especially considering the nature of their cargo. Pushing the length of his power's influence to the center of the room, the near black Rokumori gas began to accumulate and spread, set to fill the entire area with gas in only a matter of moments. Waiting for sufficient concern and attention from the employees, Noctis would use his Gasu Gasu no Mi abilities to launch himself up to the ceiling of the floor, out of line of sight from the dense Rokumori gas that hung below him. Traveling along towards the elevators, Noctis opted to take what he believed would be the less active of the two, bringing his intangible and gaseous form through the crack of the closed metal door and into the handicapped shaft, where he would hover to plot out his next move.

In spite of the large amount of workers moving in and out of the warehouse, Noctis' Rokumori Gas would be able to spread for several meters before being spotted by any of them. However, as soon as it was, that was the end of the long-legs free movement within the facility. The information was quickly relayed to others and a lever was pulled, sending an alarm blaring through the ground floor and alerting any who where still unaware. The workers outside dropped what they were doing and began funneling back through the dock bay doors that had begun to automatically close. In moments, Noctis had put every worker on high alert and the crowd outside in unease at the alarms and mass disappearance of their suppliers.

There were heavy precautionary measures in place for the warehouse due to the products they carried and dispensed. Gaseous explosions were one of the many explosives they carried, so even if it were just a mishap by one of the employees, they were prepared to deal with it. The doors had been closed under policy, but that was followed by a loud whir echoing through the ground floor as fans placed at the upper corners began circulating air. Within minutes, the gas that had been built up would be seamlessly vacated through these air vents, allowing the workers to inspect the area that the gas had moved through.

With no explosive carcass or other debris found, those in charge of the area increased the alert within the facility. If someone had done cleanup, then there was either a traitor in their midst or some other form of terrorist. Weapons would be brought out for half of the staff, arming a great deal of the bottom level and everyone on the higher levels of the warehouse. Most of all though, the Sin of Lust would begin arming herself at the top. If someone were coming for her precious explosive inventions, she'd be the one to personally end them.

As Noctis floated within the vacant elevator shaft, he was surprised with how quickly the alarms sounded and the building was mobilized. Air vents began to rumble to life, quickly clearing out what remained of Noctis' distraction, as he felt the flow tug at him ever so slightly even from within the shaft, able to resist it with his constitution alone. Luckily, none of the doors within the shaft seemed air tight, meaning despite the elevated security, Noctis could still travel up to his destination at the top of the building, towards the Sin Priest of Lust.

It was highly likely that the workers within, now on high alert, would begin to arm themselves in the scenario they were under attack. Or rather, that was the worse of the two options for Noctis, and the one he chose to prepare for. If he were incorrect in this assumption, it'd come as a pleasant surprise as opposed to a fatal error.

Propelling himself upward within the shaft, the gaseous longleg made his way to the final doorway in his path. There was no way for him to conclude if this was the uppermost floor, but it was the highest point this elevator traveled too. If the Sin Priest wasn't on this floor, he'd have to just continue on foot. Carefully bringing his form fully gaseous, Noctis merged himself with the air, slowly pressing his invisible form through the seam on the metal doors, making sure to go as gradually as possible to limit the potential for the noise of gas being forced through a small crack. Once he was fully through, he would take a moment to gather his surroundings to make sure he wasn't in immediate danger before reconstituting himself.

The floor Noctis found himself on was the top floor that the elevator shaft could reach, but it was a separate floor from the one the Sin of Lust could be found on. The office of La Bomba's bomb expert was intentionally kept separate from the rest of the facility, requiring an extra set of stairs to reach the top found elsewhere on the floor. However, in order to reach the next stairway and get to the goal, Noctis would have to traverse a full floor of armed enemies, all of which had been communicated with as to what sort of threat was unveiled on the dock bay below and had armed themselves accordingly.

The layout of this floor was a narrow hallway that stretched clear across to the other side. Five different sets of rooms, all 2-by-2, were evenly distributes along the hallway, making it easy for the next level of defense precautions to keep things separate. The hallway had already been closed off - four air-tight, steel doors, two inches thick, had been lowered from the ceiling to separate each pair of rooms; the doors to each room closed off as well, although not as tightly secured. At each doorway stood a pair of guards, twenty in total, armed with a gas mask and an array of weapons, each matching a specific guard's fighting style.

All of these guards were trained fighters, some having an advantage over the others. At least half of them had the ability to fight with Busoshoku Haki, with an undetermined number being capable of Kenbunshoku Haki. With the alarms to the building raised, all of which were prepared for a threat to test their abilities.

The Black Iconoclasm

"Tsk." Noctis muttered to himself mentally, as he surveyed the room before him. Of course, the security would become tighter the closer he came to the Sin Priest. That portion was expected. What wasn't expected was the sense of discipline he felt coming from the men directly in front of him. There was no way to anticipate their capabilities, or what threat they posed to Noctis, meaning the best course of action would be to eliminate them swiftly and with maximum prejudice. Even the slightest portion of downtime could result in a straggler calling for backup, leaving Noctis in a precarious situation.

Worse yet, each guard wore a gas mask, negating a great deal of Noctis' utility with the Gasu Gasu no Mi. Noctis would have to rely on his standard physical ability supplemented by the fruit in order to take the four immediate guards down. Studying his surroundings a bit closer, the steel wall that seemed to position itself at the opposite end from Noctis' position wasn't a natural fixture, but rather a security measure that had been lowered from the ceiling, forming an air-tight seal with the ground. What this meant is that beyond the four enemies within sight of Noctis, were an unknown number of potential enemies and doorways. From what he could assume from the dimensions of the building from the outside, there couldn't possibly be more than ten equal divisions on the floor. Meaning if the number of guards stayed consistent across each division, he could be looking at three dozen more guards at maximum.

The thought was far from the most attractive thing in the world, but even Noctis had to admit to himself that his sense of distance and scale wasn't the most accurate. With the way security was partitioned, taking out the guards with such little commotion that the others wouldn't be on him in seconds was a near impossibility. With that in mind, the cloaked gaseous intruder began to formulate a plan of attack. From the start of his attack until the death of Lust, he would be in a race against the clock.

The distance between the two parallel doorways and pair of guards was 10 meters, wide enough for a fairly large amount of foot traffic and even potential supply to make it's way through, bringing his invisible form slowly up to the ceiling 5 meters up, Noctis let his upper half manifest from the waist up, as he gathered Rokumori Gas into his two palms, compressing it rapidly into spheres. "Let's start this thing up."

Positioned upside down, Noctis manifested his lower half quickly enough to allow his long legs to get a foothold against the surface above, pressing off with Nagare to launch himself at maximum speed [6]. Thrusting his right hand forward, he let the compressed ball of Rokumori Gas press into the center of the hallway, creating a rapid and powerful explosion of the material, ten meters in radius from his point of impact, leaving all four guards well within the danger zone in addition to the closed doors behind them. "Teibaku!" A more offensive and serious version of the technique he had used in his spar against Devroux, trying to unlock his Busoshoku Haki, the rapid expansion of gas was now powerful enough to bore a hole straight through the floor with it's force, or rather, that would be the case with most buildings.

Reinforced likely as a precaution against the exact sort of damage their line of business caused, the explosive distribution centers' floor simply cracked and buckled, leaving a noticeable crater, and packed enough of a punch to blast the lesser doors leading into the side rooms off their hinges, but did little else in terms of structural damage. Still, Noctis landed upright onto his feet, pulling Kuroi off his back with his now free hand, ready to proceed into the next rooms beyond the air-tight seal, only giving the initial guards a passing glance to see if they were truly out of commission.

The men that stood guard on the current floor were trained, albeit to a lesser degree than the average marine. They were strong in their own right, amplified by the security measures and various precautions that were set up due to the business that the Sin Priest of Lust was involved in. However, even as strong as these men were in comparison to a normal man, few were prepared to take on something as otherworldly as the long-leg that now sought to harm them. The gas masks they had on wouldn't stop the explosion that Noctis threw towards them - they were sitting ducks with the heads in the barrel of a cannon.

The explosion rocked the floor, blowing the doors to the side rooms off and dispatching the guards within its radius with relative ease. They were far too close to the epic center to mitigate the damage, let alone survive the attack. With them out cold and the rooms they were guarding open, Noctis was free to explore the newly opened rooms.

Inside each room were a number of scientists wearing various types of gear. None of them were equipped with the gas masks that the guards had on, nor were they nearly as trained. These men were recruited to make bombs, but had no expertise in anything else. On the wall opposite to the door was a panel - one in each room - that was normally used to communicate with other parts of the facilities. However, in emergencies it could be used to access the other rooms on the floor by raising the closest wall. It was designed to be paired with the panel in the opposite room, allowing a precautionary crew to enter the further rooms to clean up or dispatch someone on the other side depending on the situation. Noctis, though, could use it to move along.

His initial assault successful, Noctis looked on as the scientists stopped tinkering away at various smaller explosives and gear to look at the cloaked masked man who had blown open their rooms. With all eyes on him, he put a single index finger up to the grinning mouth of his mask, mimicking for them to stay silent. In each room there appeared to be two scientists each with badges attached to their coats, both as a form of identification and as a security method.

Walking into the room on his left, Noctis made no sudden movements and proceeded towards the scientists carefully, a subtle indicator that if they were to keep calm, no irreparable harm would come to them. Reaching out, Noctis yanked the two ID cards off of the scientists in the room as they silently and nervously looked on at the masked longleg. In one swift motion, Noctis delivered a chop to the back of each scientist's neck in sequence, just powerful enough to knock the untrained men unconscious as he gently lowered them onto the floor and careful to not let his still gathering Teibaku loose.

Noctis wasn't normally a fan of leaving witnesses, but given the goal at hand, he opted to simply disguise himself to lessen his burden.  Directing his gaze over to the remaining two scientists in the space opposite to him, Noctis moved swiftly behind them before knocking them unconscious as well. It was a motion casual enough for Noctis, but to the average man it would be completely invisible at the speed he moved [4].

With everyone in Noctis' sealed away section firmly dispatched, he took the time to swipe some of the in-progress explosives and technology on the table, pocketing them for further inspection and research at a later date before pulling out the two cards he had just stolen. Looking at the panel that was fixed into the wall, he read the text that scrolled along the bottom of the screen. 'Please present employee identification.' Noctis quickly identified a scanner required to present his stolen ID and held up the card momentarily as the machine processed the input. 'Please present dual factor authentication at Terminals A and B to clear lockdown.'

"...What?" Noctis thought to himself, stunned at the level of security and technology that the Cultist Kingpin had access to before extending his gaseous arm holding the reserve keycard up to what he could only assume to be the paired terminal at the opposite end of the hall. After another second of scanning and waiting, the screen in front of him flashed slightly before going dark, the sealed metal doors in the center of the passage way rumbling as they prepared to open. Letting the keycards clatter onto the floor, he held his gathered Teibaku tightly in his right hand as he waited silently in the room, waiting for the guards on the opposite side to either come to him, or investigate the opened seal.

Noctis' gas arm stretched across the length of both rooms, making up for a lack of second person that would traditionally be needed. Both of the terminals lit up with a green light, both flashing, as the metal door cutting off the rest of the floor was raised mechanically. This, however, put the guards on the other side on edge. The next rooms were partitioned off in the same manner, but the guards keeping watching over that room were able to pay full witness to the carnage that the long-leg had released only moments before.

Guards lay on the floor, dead, with a crater in the stonework. Two guards instantly raised their weapons and crept towards the now-raised partition to inspect the damage. They left the two other guards with them to watch from afar, but as the inspecting duo moved over, they were able to see into the open rooms the scientists normally occupied, easily spotting the gas man standing near the terminal.

"Stop!"

Yet, even as they yelled this, the guards surged forwards to contradict their command. The weapons in their hands raised, they moved to cut down the long-leg where he stood. Busoshoku coated their weapons to make sure, regardless of the lack of knowledge they had on their new foe.

As the guards yelled their demands towards the cloaked figure, Noctis raised both of his hands slowly, his body subtly becoming gaseous without compromising his appearance visually. Yet as they rushed forward to strike down the supposedly surrendering intruder, the pair would be met with an explosive force, the highly compressed Teibaku having been unleashed from Noctis' hand the moment he let his grip loosen. The small marble of gas expanded once briefly, taking up approximately the size of a basketball before dropping to the floor and detonating.

The power behind the explosion was significantly more powerful than the one he had used to kill the two guards and open the doors to the room, having been building up over twice as long, and covered a distance of 50 meters from end to end, well within range of the two guards who had entered the room and approached behind him. Noctis, who had prepared for the explosion by activating his gaseous form, used the explosion to propel himself at max speed from the get go his form coming back together behind the pair of guards who had in all likelihood been launched from the attack.

Pulling Kuroi from his back, Noctis swung the hefty rectangular blade horizontally across his body, the edge looking to hit the waists of the two incoming guards dead on, hopefully cleaving them in two as their bisected halves continued past Noctis who now resided in the hallway, his attention immediately directed at the opened corridor and the remaining two guards. With thick layers of Rokumori gas now filling the corridors and rooms from the release of both of Noctis' attacks, vision was completely obscured in a dark purple haze, bordering on nearly pitch black.

With the combined Teibaku, Noctis gathered there was around 250 thousand cubic meters of gas in the two sections, enough to cause a significant explosion should gunfire or sparks ignite it. With one gesture, Noctis forced all of the Rokumori gas in his half of the paired areas into the newly opened one. Moving fast to prevent any unnecessary retaliation, Noctis pulled out his ignition stone and struck it against Kuroi, the sparks flying into the highly concentrated gas chamber. The moment it ignited, Noctis took a quick hop back, compressing the gas within even further as both he and the flames traveled, taking the shape of a dull black sphere, flames crawling along the surface.

As Noctis slid back out of the range of his gas control, the full force of the detonation was released in the other room [6 Power], 50 meters of pure force and carnage rocking not only the entire building and even small portions of the streets beyond. As the dust settled, Noctis stood ready to intercept further retaliation, and prayed the blast was enough to break down the sealed doors that still remained, lest he be forced to dispatch more helpless scientists, though that seemed unlikely given the current conditions.

The Janitor

A building built as a factory for explosives, supplemented by the financial stability of a kingpin, had defenses built to rival any government facility. The walls were made of thick concrete and lined with steel, the floors built the same, meant to be thick enough that they could take an explosion without falling to the floors below, and the blast doors built with multiple redundancies to make them all too sturdy. These blast doors were to be lowered from the ceiling as non-permanent protection, but because of this, they were built similar to vault doors. They'd lower with steel bars into the ground below, forming a tight seal all the way around, making them nearly impossible to be forced horizontally and just as hard to be raised by hand.

The second Teibaku explosion that Noctis released was far more powerful than the one prior, but the result of the two were similar. The desks, papers, explosive parts, and other stuff in the room, even combined into the explosion of the Teibaku, were only enough to send cracks up the walls and through the floors, but nothing fell. The guards, however, were launched as suspected, being cleaved in half by Noctis' secondary efforts though they'd have been dead by then regardless. All of it, however, was a set up for his true intentions.

By manipulating the gas in the current rooms and condensing it in the small chamber with the next blast door, Noctis had a makeshift bomb that dwarfed even the combined efforts of the Teibaku prior. The guards had little time to react after trying to come to terms with what was happening, so when the long-leg lit the condensed gas on fire, they were burnt to crisps almost instantly, with the explosive force following shortly behind.

Even the redundancies on the door defenses weren't enough to keep it in place. The close proximity of the explosion to such a sturdily built door shoved it off the tracks and down the hall it was protecting, raking its steel bars across the floor as it flew. Its shape, even contorted, took up most of the hallway. That, combined with the speed it flew, gave no time for the next set of guards to react, crushing them effortlessly between two steel doors and making the next hurdle that much simpler for Noctis to traverse.

Although powerful, the explosion that Noctis created was forced to put a lot of effort in uprooting the initial blast door. It wasn't strong enough to achieve breaking through multiple doors, but the force of the two colliding dented the second. It was shoved inward in a fashion that meant it wouldn't raise completely, but for the time being it still formed an airtight seal against the floor. Just as the first length of hallway had, there were two rooms filled with scientists, each room having a panel against its respective outer wall.
