David followed along with the commodore's words with head nods every now and then, the man's plan was a sound one though the fact it was barely passed midnight probably did not help matter very well. Most of the marines not on night's watch would be tired and exhausted by being woken up so late at night, now being told to prepare defenses? This did not spell well for Moral or combat effectiveness. David was no general, but even he understood soldiers to tired stand were too tired to fight. Even less so if those same troops were not feeling particularly battle ready.
David withdrew from his thoughts to ask the Commodore about such things but as he did he noticed a key thing. Everyone was already gone and doing their orders. With a sigh and a run on the top of his helmeted head, David rose to his full height and went to talk to the quarter master, He needed to sort out what he was to do with his arrows. Them taking up space and not being used, they could most definitely make for good spike. Though after just finding the quarter master, the news of the change of plans caused David to sigh once more before going to collect his things.
--------------------------
Walking through the desert was nothing new to David, having spent more then a few years on the island has given him plenty of experience with the heat. Which is to say, block it from your mind and you will hardly notice it. To David, this simply meant to go into deep thinking while walking. Hardly a problem for one such as he, having spent the better part of fifty years simply sitting and thinking he had pretty much mastered the art of deep thinking. Not to say he wasn't affected by the heat. He precipitated as much as anyone, he could simply block such things from his mind by not acknowledging them. David adjusted his shoulders where he had the better part of the marine's heavier equipment, mostly the cannons, on his back covered by a large sheet to cover them from the hot sun's rays. This in turn covered David's back and his left shoulder, though very few else leaving him in nothing but his normal armor. The only reason he wasn't being boiled alive in his armor was the fur lined insides which insulated him from he heat particularly well. Though that was neither here nor there. The makeshift pack David had on was what had the Marine's heavy artillery along with its ammo, as such was important for the coming battle. David's job was to protect it, though there wasn't much to protect it from in the desert. Most things out here would not attempt a fight with a giant. None the less, David kept an eye out with his bow at his side. It was the least he could do for the convoy, even if he did it idly and not looking particularly hard. His thoughts preoccupying him more then enough.
----------------------------------
Five minutes. Five minutes was when the fight started. Twenty from when he gave out the call of the approaching horde. fifteen since he debriefed the Commodore of what the enemy was. Ten from when the cannon's were fully loaded and ready for the incoming enemy. The herd of twenty was cut down to 9 in the ensuring charge from the Hyena's. David's arrow's killing those he hit, no matter where they made their mark, armored or not. Now in time however, David was having problems. As soon as the battle commenced two of the large Armored Hyena's leap at David, all being only as tall as David's knee meant they had plenty of room they needed to leap to go for a giant's jugular. Didn't phase the hyena's any. Two leap straight into his chest with enough force that the sea train would of been proud. With a loud grunt, David had fallen onto his back, the marines in the area having seen him falling and cleared out before the impact.
That was how David found himself in the position of the two Hyena's attempting to rip his throat out, though they had a hard time doing so. They were not the only ones armored on this day. Not to mention that David's was armor made for a giant. They could do very little to it. Didn't stop them from clawing into his exposed flesh with their claws however. David currently held off one attacker with his fist in its mouth, his gauntlet protecting him from the gnashing teeth that were very enthusiastic at attempting to chew his hand off. The other one had David's forearm at its throat, blocking it from getting any closer.
David was running out of time to retaliate. He couldn't keep these two off him much longer, their natural strength and their weight being enough to continue to batter at him until his arm's failed him. Of course, they weren't the only strong one around here. For what in this world was stronger then a giant? Pulling his fist back towards the ground, his fist coming out of the hyena's mouth. The Hyena which, with the intrusion gone, was now going for his shoulder and tear out his flesh. It barely didn't make it on account of David's fist coming back and striking it straight in the throat, throwing it off of him... For now anyway. Now with one distraction gone for the moment, David focused on the other. putting his other hand on his forearm, he pushed. The hyena was forced two steps back before it attempted its assault again, only this time David was prepared. Instead of the Hyena charging him once more, David stopped it before it returned to its previous position by catching its less armored throat in his right hand which he held tightly and stopped its dead in its tracks. Sitting up quickly, David's left hand would come to his front like a boxing hook, and catch the other Hyena, who had recovered by now, in the throat as well. With both of his attack in hand, David rose to a kneeling position, both of the hyena's writhing in his grasp for escape. Raising both up into the air, David slammed the one in his left hand first, followed by the one in his right while he raised the left one. On the first slam, the took internal damage. On the second their neck's snapped. On the third, the were well and truly dead.
Leaving the corpses where they were slammed into the sand, David grabbed his bow, which was to his left where it had fallen, and stood. Grasping it with both hands, David held it like one with a bat. Looking around the battle field, David would note the 6 hyena's left. Hefting his bow high into the air, David would run forward and bring it down upon a Hyena which was about to eat a brave or foolish marine who was attempting to reload a cannon. David's strike, however, only managed to stun the hyena for a quick moment, one the marine used to run off. Raising his foot , David would slam it down with his full weight of 46 thousand pounds. He squashed like one would a bug. Looking up once more, David would yell
"Their under belly is the weakest! It has no armor covering!" David's yell was easily loud enough to cover the battle field, alerting the marines to the enemies' weakness. Then David turned to the continued battle, to find his next target.
