Now before I even get started, I feel the need to say this as the "Skill Sets are problematic" thread was just finished, that this is in no way going to be bringing up what was discussed in that thread, nor Banzoku's Skill-Set (Which while is magic, I will not be bringing up as this is based more on cannon then rp), rather this is going to be a general discussion on the title of the thread and a general discussion of Basil Hawkins (Link) in general. And no, this is not a thread to warrent the use of Magic on the site, if the site wants to rule the stuff Basil pulls off as his Devil Fruit then I ain't gonna argue that considering how little we know, so if a staff member reads this know this is not meant to change your mind on THAT so don't bring it up if you wouldn't mind. So with all of that mentioned let us all be please be respectful of each other and enjoy in some jolly discussion among peers, alright?

So the reason I made this thread is more of less because I always see people connecting Basil's powers of Voodoo to a Devil Fruit, something that I can honestly see truth be told considering what Oda has pulled out before, and I don't see anything wrong with it. But I have always been a fan that Vodoo is an actual thing in One Piece, given that pirates in general were mainly from the Caribbean, at least the pirates most people think of anyway. And Voodoo WAS around during that time (If you went by Haitian Vodou anyway, a few different views of Voodoo popped up after that) so there is always that possibility.

But the main reason I bring this up is because if we went by what Basil has shown, it would mean his Devil Fruit can 1) Redirect damage he would receive via Voodoo dolls. 2) Do 100% (from what we have seen and Basil has said he had a 100% ) accurate Tarot card readings. 3) turn into a giant straw monster. While i'm not sure if any other Devil fruit has that sorta... Versatility im going to say for a lack of a better word. And yes I do realize that Luffy has pulled off some pretty surprising stuff with his fruit, with Gear Second and Third, and god forbid I leave out gear fourth (Do we actually know how he does that gear yet? I don't remember reading how it gets pulled off)  but those are pretty well explained in the base of the story. Gear second is him speeding up the blood in his body to help pull of some more...Uh... self destructive moves (He's shortening his life for god's sake) and gear third is him blowing air into his bones and/or musles to stupidly large sizes. But those can be explained because his fruit made his body Rubber. However Basil so far has only had his powers explained by turning into a straw monster, thus my belief his Voodoo is something separate from his Devil Fruit.

But thats my view of things anyway, What are your thoughts on the matter?

Until oda expands on basil and his abilities, it's about as well fleshed out as hashoken is. I would say that if someone made a custom occupation like Ban did and made the skill set, it would be an open and shut case. If it were to be implemented as something official to the site and not to anyone who has the occupation, then you'd need to make up rules for it from scratch, based on nothing really.

I mean in one piece there is some unique capabilities, hypnotisim in a way could be seen as a form of magic in the way that it has been used in one piece, perhaps not Jangos which is true hypnotism but Miss Goldenweeks seems far more like magic than true hypnotism, the ability to manipulate action and emotion through paint colours. through symbols and colours, I mean that seems more magical than hypnotism imo. It would honestly depend on the ability in question. Like Noctis's charms and hexes, I loved his skill set, though the ability to channel electro and throw it an so forth, I get why that wasn't allowed given Electro is a constant contact based ability but his base capability of his charms etc where pretty much one of the coolest skill sets Iv seen on a OP site.

Then we have other forms of abilities, such as ramen kenpo for example. The ability to turn flour into ramen and use ones nose hair to cut it and then seemingly at will manipulate the ramen from your body, again that seems more magical, so really it depends on the definition of magic being used. I think Voodoo could work dependant on how its done, perhaps not to the limit of true voodoo or relying a large amount of dna rather than a single hair to cause harm/control others.

In terms of Basil though, I agree with Ding that its so unfleshed out that we don't know his truths true capacity, and we have seen dfs with certain variety of ability sugar for instant grants the user eternal youth - the ability to create toys and control them via touch and contracts, instantly wiping the memories of those turned into toys by loved ones. Basils fruit could literally be the voodoo fruit turning the user into a voodoo human which would then essentially cover all the boundaries that come within voodoo itself.

Though I would certainly love to see some more out there skill sets, one piece has had some crazy ass ones that don't make much sense in certain aspects so you never know.
