"Fidel. Why is it that you are so set on this plan to get your name known as a Pirate? Why don't you just leave the revolutionary army and pursue that wholeheartedly. I understand you are Qari's son but.....that doesn't mean your are set to follow his path. He does this because he has to. You on the other hand don't." Bill spoke coming toward Fidel. He didn't feel any type of way about Fidel and what he was doing he just grew close. Even though he was instructed not to. The Boy has been in a couple jams and Bill has saved him. Bill has been in a couple jams and Fidel came and saved him. They've drunk together. Even taken down a few Woman together. They relationship being that of a best friend type deal or even a Older and Younger Brother thing. As they did things each didn't like. Harsh words have always been thrown but their was not truly meaning behind them. And they made up each time. The words Bill spoke were mainly to just see Fidel truly be happen. As a revolutionary Fidel didn't seem like the type that was cut out for it. It being more like he was obligated to be a part of. Bill understood though Fidel could change. And has seen some bright spots in Fidel's ways. But, at his core the life of piracy was rooted deep. Those years he was with that crew left a lasting mark. Bill doesn't even push the blame all the way to Fidel. As Qari knew exactly where Fidel was when he first ran away. That boy may think his Father only recently started to care. But Qari has always cared for those close to him. And may be one of the reasons he is the Man trying to change this world.
Fidel would look at Bill for a few seconds before downing the bottle before him. The strong liquid streaming down both sides of his face. He didn't stop till it was all gone. They were deep in the forest right now, taking a break from a journey. Drinking and eating by a fire they both created. "Bill yous drunk. And everya time you get like this, you say the same thing. Truuuussst me! My life as a pirate died when my crew died, if you want me to be blunt! I could never sail under another Jolly Roger unless it was the one we used. Well....I couldn't sail unda one truthfully. Yah know what I am sayin'?"
"Shishishishi, damn! I'll jus tellya when we aren't soooo fucked. Up. Cause you in yah feelings!" Fidel would say as he would fall backwards. He was sitting down indian style when he was speaking. But, after he spoke to Bill again he would pass out. He had one to many. Both weren't the best when it came to approaching things how someone in the revolutionary army should. Them drinking like this was a prime example of that. Their 'journey' was to the other side of Jaya Island. There was a freshly established port. They didn't know exactly where it was but were confident they'd find it. The rumors were that people were being taken from Mock town and to this new port. No one however made a move to stop this. There were a lot of different things said in the rumors. But simply being caught and sold into slavery was going on. Jaya Island was the Pirate Capital right now. But, kidnapping others and sending them into slavery wasn't something done here. It was kinda like a unspoken rule. What Bill and Fidel were going to do was stop them. Not for the sake of the Pirates but because of this is one thing a Revolutionary can't stand for. No one deserves to be put into servitude against their will. Even Pirates.
Standing up Bill would go into his bag and remove a cover. It was chilly tonight and Fidel has gotten to found of wearing a hawaiian shirt and short everyday. That was fine and all but at night it got really cold. So, with a blanket in hand he'd put it over Fidel. Following that he'd go over to the fire. He'd put the fire out as he wasn't a fan of letting it just burn whilst he slept. Weary of wild sparks that could possibly set him on fire in his sleep. He would move Fidel but he had found out Fidel wasn't the type you just moved or even touched when he fell asleep. Even though he liked to portray being such a none caring hard ass he was plagued by some demons in his sleep. Coming when he couldn't put up a front. That didn't mean Fidel was a softy. No, he was still someone you'd call a Monster when it came to combat. He just wasn't a cold hearted one like he wanted to act. Bill did feel he was close to that edge however.
6:23AM
He awoke to the smell of ham and eggs. The delicious aroma filling his nostrils and making his mouth water a bit. Bill cooking them over a open fire. Calico would lay their for a bit. He usually didn't fall asleep this earlier nor was he the type to get up this early. The sounds of birds chirping filled his ears. That wasn't the only thing that he heard as it was like he was attuned with nature. "The islands in the south are ~ Warm〜 ♪. Paina-purupuru ~ Their heads get really hot 〜 ♪. SEC-"
Fidel was a lover of music. Instruments or singing. That however did not mean he was good at it in anyway. He was pretty bad. But, that never stopped him. Nor will it. However he wouldn't be able to finish as Bill would speak before the second verse could be started.
"No, shut up don't start and eat. " Bill would say before Calico would start singing anymore. He knew that if Fidel kept singing he wouldn't stop any time soon. So nipping it in the butt now what the best course of action Bill could say. Calico would roll his eyes as he sat up and grabbed the plate of food Bill held out. There was no silence with the nature and the smacking of lips as they ate.
Calico would be the first to stand up after finishing his food. They didn't eat on conventional plates rather Bill had used their environment to plate their food. That being a slab of stone. Only thing he brought was the skillet. Everything else was gotten from their environment. He had gotten up two hours earlier to get everything. "Fidel..."
"Why won't you call me Calico?" Fidel would interject before Bill could finish or start another sentence.
"Because that isn't your name. It was just something we came up with so you can turn Shoda in without getting to much heat. Even though that didn't work. I get the plan you have. I just didn't think you were really committing to it. But, if you really want me to call you that I will." Bill would say as he was putting everything up now into his backpack.
"Hmph, it is fine. Call me Calico when we are around others is all I ask. As I AM committing to the plan I have. I think it is a good one." Fidel would say. He was confident in his plan to infiltrate the World Government as a Pirate. Even if he just found out about the Shichibukai system.
"Sure. But, as I was sayin'. We are probably two or three hours out from the other port. Well, I hope. We may be more if we move at a slow err normal pace. I did find the route that they took and followed it for a little bit. We have to head over a small mountain from the looks of it. I don't know if we will go through, over, or around it. " Bill would say as he would begin to walk in the direction of those they were tracking.
"Jaya has mountains?" Grabbing his bag as well Fidel would rush over to get beside Bill. As he didn't know where they were going.
"Jaya used to be even larger than this. Until the knock up stream fired part of it into the sky. Which created my home. But to answer your question there is a small mountain range. It is how you get to the other side of the Island. Well, the long way." Bill would say as he kept moving on.
"Is there not a quicker way to get to the other port?" Fidel would stop as he wasn't dressed for trekking through the mountains. His sandals weren't even that good for doing that through the forest.
"There is....but." Bill would stop as he looked back at Fidel.
"But what?"
"If we cut through the bay we can get to the other side of the Island faster. But, I will lose their tracks. They probably didn't take the faster way due to it being populated with ships and what not. And their little operation will be spotted easier. Hence why we are going around like they did. I expect they had checkpoints and what not from the amount of tracks. One group takes them to one checkpoint and they keep doing it. Making those they are going to make slaves tired from all the walking. And keeping their guards fresh by switching them." Bill would say before turning forward and walking once more. He didn't mind them talking at all. It made the journey less boring.
"How do you know all of this?"
"From this." Bill would toss over a muddy piece of paper to Fidel. "I have someone that allowed themselves to get caught. They are the ones that let me know. They are a rev just like us. "
"How'd you get this?"
"I said I found the route they took. So, I kept going a bit further the amount of tracks increased and went off in two directions. One toward the bay and the other the way we are going now. My contact had this bird give me this letter. But, I still was able to figure out some of it on my own. "
"Hmm. This only says checkpoints. How in the hell you get so much information when there ain't any? " Fidel would ask as he put the piece of paper into his pocket.
"I am a tracker. That isn't my profession but something I learned throughout my time under your Father. And you should have the same skills as me. You are a Headhunter like Shoda right?"
"Eh? I thought those people just killed others."
"Wow."
"Fuck you sayin' wow like that for?"
"No wonder Shoda lost to us. He was just a killer.....he didn't even really delve deep into what he did. But...I can't blame him. Most people that follow the sword are like this. Especially those from Wano. Right now he is just a damn brute that waves around a sword. Probably why he was also caught in Skypiea. Maybe I should teach him. No, he isn't ready or smart enough. Or am I just underestimating him. " After Bill said he couldn't blame Fidel his words began to speak softer and softer. To the point Fidel wouldn't be able to hear anything unless he was having the words whispered into his ears.
"Oi! What are you going on about?!" Fidel would raise his voice as he did not like it when Bill spoke like this. If Bill ever got too deep in thought he started to go on and on to himself.
"Fidel walk ahead of him. I will be teaching you what you are lacking." Bill would say as he'd stop.
"No." Fidel didn't want to be ordered around like this. He wasn't no chump.
"I wasn't askin'. Get yur ass up here!" Bill's voice was stern and it got the eye rolling Fidel to walk in front of him.
I won't bore you. What happened from there was the first lesson on the tracking portion of Fidel's headhunting. He learned things so he can practice on his own. Bill also planned to show him a book he wrote when they got back to Mock town. Something that he should've learned from Shoda when he was studying the Ronin. But, with Bill teaching him it was easier and straight to the point. Fidel got wacked on the head a few times through it but he showed determination to learn what Bill knew. This mainly from how Bill spoke. He made it more about it being something Fidel needed rather than something he wanted to force on him. They had fun. And that is how Fidel learned the best. Even if that sounds childish it was what he was used to. Even during his time in his Pirate life everything he learned was fun.
8:12AM
"So this is what they do when there is a struggle?"
"No, I think they found out who she really was."
Both stood over a corpse. She hadn't just been killed but beaten and violated. It was a shameful way to kill someone, even in the eyes of Fidel. Her body wasn't that cold so they had gotten closer to them. But, that distance would increase sadly. Without any words the two would begin to dig a hole into the earth. This took over thirty minutes due to the terrain at the base of the mountain. There was only the sound of the animals within the the background. Fidel didn't really feel any type of way about this Women other than how she was killed. Bill however did not fight back his tears as they streams down his cheeks and onto the ground. He didn't let them stop him from digging the hole either. Finally, they'd finish and place her within the grave. Bill must've been close to her from how long he just stood over her grave. Fidel started to actually feel bad for his friend. But, that didn't cause him to say anything to comfort Bill. As he didn't know what would be appropriate to even say. All he could do is place his hand on Bill's back. To show that he had it.
9:12AM
They had move back onto their journey. The weather decided to not be on their side at all. As the clouds blackened and swelled until the water that accumulated within them slammed the entire Island. Bill and Fidel were mid climb when it came down, "Shit!" is what Fidel would say as he reached out for another rock that stuck out. Upon grabbing it and committing to using it he felt it becoming loose. "Shit! Shit! Shit! Shit!" he would say as he would begin to slide down and backwards. His grip had nothing to do with this. The rain had just quickly made what the rocks he was grabbing loose in the soil. The mountain was around 146m high. They weren't scaling the entire thing but taking a short cut to the path that ran through it. But them doing this to cut time seemed to potentially end badly for Fidel. As he would freak out due to the height they were at. He wasn't afraid of heights. He was afraid of falling from heights.
"I HAVE NO REGRETSSSSS" Fidel would close his eyes shut say as he began to fall now. But, a rope would seem to fly downward and wrap around his waist. With his eyes shut he kept screaming. He'd stop screaming after a little while as he didn't feel any pain. He'd quickly open his eyes and see that he was caught by Bill. Just like when he was about to fall off the ship that was heading up the Knock up stream. Bill was there to make sure Fidel didn't die through something so preventable. Bill had already made it to the entrance and was able to save Fidel because of that. So, he would begin to pull the guy up. "DON'T BE SO CARELESS!" Bill would yell once he got Fidel all the way up. He yelled because he didn't want to see Fidel die. And with how the weather was the thunder didn't allow their yelling voices to carry that far.
"Oi! You didn't need to help me! I had it!" Fidel would say as he would walk into the cave. He was thankful that Bill helped him up and even though he didn't say that he hoped Bill understood that. He had entered the cave whilst he was talking as he didn't want to stay in the ran any longer. Thinking it over they should've just went up the regular path instead of trying to climb. If they ran they might've made it into the cave before the rain came.
"Mhmm, SHUT UP!" Bill would say as he'd strike Fidel at the top of the head. He didn't like when Fidel acted so cocky. Even though he was used to it. He also would enter the cave. They didn't need to get out their lanterns or anything like that as the cave walls were light up by dials. As this path was man made. Some guys long ago making this path due to being tired of going around or over the mountain. Honestly, if they hadn't come up with that Fidel might've.
Before they got deep at all they'd get low and search for tracks. This was to see if anyone had come back at all. And after a few seconds they'd notice that wasn't the case. Either the checkpoint was at the end of the tunnel, in the middle, or not here at all. They'd find out eventually. It would take approximately three hours to walk through the tunnel and reach the other side.
