A Guide to Zoans
Of the three different types of Devil Fruits, Zoans are among the most tame. While Paramecia grant a fantastical range of superhuman abilities and Logias allow the consumer control over the elements of the world, Zoans simply give the consumer the ability to change into the form of an animal. However, while the powers of Zoan Devil Fruits sound tame next to its brethren, even these Devil Fruits have a wide range of capabilities wrapped within.
While Zoans are just one type of Devil Fruits, this category can be further broken down into smaller categories. These sub-categories are as follows:
Common - Common Zoans are the Devil Fruits that grant animal powers of those living in the modern day. Elephants, deer, frogs, birds... Even humans and One Piece canon species; all life within the animal kingdom can be found within the Zoan category, with the obvious exception being sea life due to the Devil Fruits innate weakness.
Ancient - Similar to the aforementioned category, Ancient Zoans allow the user to transform into a specific animal found to be extinct. Animals such as mammoths, saber tooth tigers, and dinosaurs can be found within this category. This is also where a Giant Zoan would be found. These are far more rare than common Zoans and offer significant advantages in their own right.
Mythical - As stated, Mythical Zoans open up the realm of mythology and fantasy to the consumer. Canon examples of Mythical Zoans are Sengoku's Buddha and Marco's phoenix Devil Fruits. These Zoans offer far greater powers than other ladder categories and are more rare than even Logias.
While these sub-categories have a wide range of variations separating them, they all play on a similar playing field. Upon consumption of the Zoan Devil Fruit, the consumer is given three different transformations along the path to the fruit's abilities. Consumer Point, the base form of the consumer be it a person or object, Animal Point, the full animal transformation, and Half Point, the hybrid transformation that melds together the animal and consumer. These three transformations come to the Zoan skill set in the form of skills, being given to each consumer free and allowing various benefits given the user and Devil Fruit ability granted. Zoan users can create additional points that can offer alternative advantages to their normal half point. These points can be purchased as skills and users can possess as many as they purchase.
**Note: These skills are only given when included in a Zoan-specific skill set.
