It's the thrill in the end. In that moment when something stolen becomes mine
or is it? That's the bliss I desire.
"Zou?" Sinbad inquired. It was at this same point that Gilbard ascended to the deck, bringing news that Jiro was going to make a smooth recovery. Adding in a slight jab about the danger in following Jackal around, Gilbard inquired about Jackal's origins on being on Sandy Island in the first place. Taking another swig of ale into his mouth, the Captain had abandoned his mug, as his head was feeling a bit light.
"Shishishishi... Perfect timing. I can kill two birds with one stone. You wanted to know what Zou was... and Gilbard asked about my reason for being on Sandy Island. I guess it all started on Drum." Jackal stated. Propping on a couple crates behind him, all of the Bandits who'd served under Jackal, Sinbad and Gilbard all gathered around for the Mink's tale. Sinbad motioned towards Gilbard, offering the Fishman a drink of ale or stout, shooting a grin towards the doctor.
"Zou. Most Lesser Minks wouldn't know about it. It's an island secluding in a sea known as the New World. From young, us Minks are trained to fight using our Electro. Mostly, you either end up serving a Ruler or others go into research." Jackal stated.
"My family... The Jackal Clan were responsible for producing several generations of warriors who served the 'Sun' Ruler side of Zou." Jackal explained. Jackal noticed the puzzled looks on the faces of Sinbad and a few of the other Bandits,
"Ah. Zou is my homeland. Instead of Kingdom's, our people are divided by our sleeping habits. Sun side minks rise with the sun. Moon side minks rise with the moon." Jackal explained, as redundant as the statement was.
"Anyway. I trained to be apart of the Sun Side's Musketeers. Knights who serve the two specified rulers of Zou. Long story shortened, one day, Zou was raided by a gang of slave traders. In a plea to save my father's life, I was captured." Jackal explained.
"I spent days... almost weeks locked in a cage. Eventually, I arrived on Drum. I spent most of my days being ridiculed by Lesser Minks. Until three years later, a pirate by the name of Gin freed me during his assault on the Royalty's Castle." Jackal explained.
"I travelled with him about three months. When it came to Gin and his crew, they we're the best band of thieves I ever encountered. Though, I might be bias seeing as I hadn't been exposed to the outside world long." Jackal stated grinning.
"Sleight of Hand... Pick-Pocketing... Guerrilla Warfare... Black Jack... I learned all kinds of things from them." Jackal continued.
"Oh? Why did you leave?" Sinbad asked, hiccuping in between the phrasing of his sentence.
"Because. Gin and I had a disagreement on my cut from a job we did." Jackal said, puffing out his cheeks stubbornly. Breaking into laughter, Sinbad honestly couldn't believe Jackal's reasoning for leaving his former crew.
"In all seriousness... We had different concepts of what it meant to be a thief. Gin believe in taking everything from anyone. Absolute Evil, he'd proudly call it. In his reasoning, he didn't free me. He stole my freedom. I was neither a slave nor free but indebted to him. Which to some extent... He was correct." Jackal explained.
"On the other hand... I don't really care much about stealing easily obtainable items. Beli... Gold... anything I can pick-pocket off the street. I generally have no interest in it. I want things that you can't find anywhere else in the world. That's what drew me to Pluton's Story. That's my morale compass. I won't steal anything I don't desire to. Honour among thieves... Silly isn't it?" Jackal concluded.
"Pwhaha.... Sounds like you Capt'. Barron was more like Gin too. I only followed him out of fear." Sinbad explained.
"With you... It's like... my heart won't stop beating. What will you do next? That's why I follow ya." Sinbad concluded, draping his hands around Gilbard, he'd always get extra friendly when he drank. Sinbad was an emotional mess when it came to alcohol.
"So yer not going for Pirate King!?" one of the Bandits shouted in a drunken frenzy.
"Pirate King... Ah. As in like what Soju's father accomplished? I never thought about it. I wanna be the world's best thief. Steal as much as I need, for as long as I can, and retire on an island somewhere." Jackal said.
"What of you, Gilbard? You must be tired hearing me babble about my life. What brings you onto these seas? A woman? Medicine? Maybe an incurable disease? Or is it this miracle you seek?" Jackal inquired, being sure to not go into much detail on his last point, due to not being sure on how much Gilbard wanted to be divulged about this 'miracle cure' ghost of his he was chasing.
